Here’s what former University of Memphis running back DeAngelo Williams told the Charlotte media after returning a kickoff for 98 yards and a touchdown in a preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

“I was looking up at the screen,” Williams said. “(My teammates) told me if you ever break loose, look up at the screen and it will help you out. So I glanced up there a few times and used it as a rear-view mirror and that helped me get in the end zone.”

Williams took advantage of the video board on several occasions during his U of M career, including on an 86-yard touchdown run versus Tulane as a freshman in 2002.

Williams was the first-round draft pick of the Charlotte Panthers last spring.
