Are you ready for some football? A Tuesday morning party? Good grief, that second game of the Monday Night Football doubleheader ran late. You gotta be either a big football fan or in need of some Randy Moss or LaDainian Tomlinson fantasy football points to stay up THAT late.

Speaking of fantasy football, make sure you read Lisa Kelly Eason’s weekly look at that topic in The Commercial Appeal on Thursday. She knows what she’s talking about.

What’s this?

The Diva getting in on the Sports gig?

Apparently so. Our own iDiva throws out a sports trivia question on her site today, and offers an iDiva t-shirt to anyone who gets the right answer. Go to her site and read “Tigers, Tigers Everywhere”..

And if you got directed to her site from THIS posting, make sure you tell her and we’ll throw in a MemphisEdge t-shirt as well.

will.jpgHudgens Out For Season

One has to feel for Tiger sophomore quarterback Will Hudgens. The former Ridgeway High player had overcome two injuries to earn the No. 2 quarterback job this season and was drawing praise from Tiger coach Tommy West and offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner for his grasp of the offense and his dogged work in the weight room.

Hudgens learned Monday that a fractured tibia will keep him out for this season as well. He was hurt while being tackled for a loss on a third-down play against Chattanooga.

It’s an injury that won’t require surgery, but it will keep Hudgens sidelined. He’s trying to mentally fight through it, which is the toughest part of the injury.

maurice.jpgThere was a letter in our Sound Off section Sunday from a soldier currently stationed in Iraq who, as a Tiger basketball fan, can’t understand why Memphis’ top high school players no longer stay home, like they did during the majority of Larry Finch’s coaching career at the U of M.

The latest Memphis-area basketball product to announce he’s flying the coop is Raleigh-Egypt point guard Maurice Miller (left), who’s currently rated the No. 13 point guard prospect nationally and has verbally committed to Georgia Tech, following in the footsteps of a certain 2006 standout from Mitchell High.

Miller obviously isn’t the first and he won’t be the last.

Former World No. 1 Jim Courier will provide blogs from the U.S. Open during the run of the tournament.

jimc.jpg What an Open. I am exhausted and I didn’t play a shot (unless you count my hits on the practice courts with Johnny Mac, Connors and Roddick)…I just talked a lot but the emotion still got me pretty whipped tired.
How good are you, Roger Federer? Good enough to go 27-1 in Grand Slam play in 06, the 2nd best record in the Open era (men’s) behind Rod Laver’s Slam of 28-0. The crazy thing is other than the match you lost at the French you were NEVER in danger of elimination in any match you played at any of the majors. Never down 2 sets to 1, never down a break in the 5th, never truly pushed to the brink. That is scary. The depth of the 128 men’s field is very strong in 2006 but we have a player for the ages in you. Tiger’s probably the only guy you can truly relate to with all of that genius ability and dominance. I want you to make sure you follow him in the final round of Augusta when he’s paired with Phil next year just to get him back for showing up in the finals. Do me a favor and stand in his viewing line for each putt…he likes pressure so go ahead and give him some. Oh and remind him you’re closer to breaking the all time major’s record than he is and you’re giving him 5 years…I would recommend, however, for his sake that he sit in a neutral box rather than yours next time you play an American in the US Open final 2 weeks before he heads over to play Ryder Cup. That was a bit confusing for us all.
