So here we are, just a few hours from the Derrick Rose announcement, and still nobody really knows whether the kid will pick Memphis, Illinois or Indiana.

It’s quite remarkable, really. For most big-time recruits, word usually leaks out beforehand. And it’s not usually of the the somebody-who-knows-somebody, Internet rumor variety.

This one has been different: Quiet, quiet, quiet.

I’ve talked to several folks about Rose the past couple weeks — people both here and in Chicago — and every one of them feels very strongly he will choose Memphis. And though those people are close to the process, none of them has heard Rose say directly what his intentions are. Thus, there’s still some mystery, which is probably the way the Rose family wants it.
