Everybody ready for an early Saturday wake-up call to watch the Tigers at 11 a.m.?

Here’s a little secret of the trade. I know some fans hate early games, but writers love them. When Memphis plays an 8 p.m. game during the week, trying to file a game story before The Commercial Appeal’s deadline is always a challenge. For an early game, I can spend more time in the locker room, do more interviews and write a more thorough story. Plus, it’s still early when I get done, meaning I can make plans for a Saturday night.

Though SMU is playing well at the moment, I wouldn’t anticipate this game being a particularly dangerous one for Memphis. As I wrote after the Tigers’ domination of Central Florida, when Memphis comes to play, nobody in Conference USA can hang with them.
