John Stacy, Tiger fan blogger

It looks like I might write quite a few of these this week.  I’m going to shoot from the hip here on a few things today.  You could say I’m starting to feel like a kid waiting on Christmas to get here.  So a lot of things are running through my head.  I hope I’m not alone and some of you are feeling the same things.

I’m already packing my overnight bag to tailgate Friday night.   My wife is thinking I’m nuts.  Ok, that’s not unusual but packing five days before is a bit much for her to take.  She’s not complaining about figuring out which part of which drawer is for which Memphis clothing.  That’s right the basketball, football and other shirts all have their places.

Fanfest was what it always is, FUN!  It is always good to see Tigers fans, players, coaches and even some media members.    The downpour was cool at first as it cooled things down.  When the skies opened the “ah cool” part went away.  It shortened the day but I think everyone had fun nonetheless.

These group of Tigers are (to borrow a former marketing slogan) “Bigger, Stronger and Faster.”  I was standing next to some of these kids thinking I don’t ever remember when we were ever this big.  Ever since Coach West took the reigns we’ve started looking more and more like a D-1A team.  Not to mention playing like one.

Why do I and others use the word “we” when talking about our teams?  It is simple really.  College fans are likely alumni.  Therefore they are really part of the school.  I know I do.  I ride high with the wins and in the doldrums when we lose.  So much so the family doesn’t say much to me if we lose.  They know I feel bad because the loss cuts deep.  Then again when we win my kids feel the need to ask me for things because I’m a little more receptive.

I want to remind everyone of a comment made or alleged to be made by Ed Orgeron, ”We will never lose to Memphis again.”  There has been some denial that he said that.  I think he said it off the record and didn’t want it known but that’s just my opinion.

Tigers fans, don’t forget to be out in the Highland Hundred parking area FRIDAY evening.  CSTV is going to do their Friday evening show out there and we really want a good showing.  Bring signs, your vocal chords and a friend or two so we can look good on national TV.
