The folks in Oxford should accept the gift, be happy and keep your mouths shut. I know that sounds like sour grapes but it is what it is. The Tigers won most statistical categories both good and bad which normally wins games. But the bad ones bit the Tigers.

I said to my friends before that 24 points wins the game. I need to move to Vegas if I keep this up. But the fact remains that this Tigers defense will not give up more than 24 points at any point this season. They held om to exactly 2 drives over 25 yards after the 1st quarter. They’ll get even better as the season wears on.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt we truly gave a game away. But I also felt good about the future. Coach Kravitz and Coach Helton are going to be outstanding coordinators. Coach West has already proved his value to our university.

I’ll preface this by saying I love Memphis. I love the Memphis fans. But we might be one of the dumbest crowds complete with announcing. I don’t mean to blast y’all but we need to make some changes. Is there anything wrong with the PA guy working the crowd? I’ve seen it in EVERY stadium I’ve ever been to except OURS. Do NOT stand up and make noise when our offense is calling a play. We want it QUIET so our guys can hear signals. When the visitors have the ball, be LOUD. It’s not the other way around as we’ve seen way too often in the Liberty Bowl. There’s a few more changes I’d make but I don’t wanna sound too female dogging.

One thing being overlooked for this week’s A-State game is the revenge factor. I can guarantee you that the Tigers viewed that loss last year as embarrassing. They’ll look to make it square Saturday.

I guess every time we travel to Jonesboro we’ll think of the 2004 game. There were few of we Memphis fans there at the end. But those of us who were there will never forget what we witnessed. That game is the only regular season game I’ve got the ticket and program framed. My son and daughter-in-law were there with me too. I’m not saying who but there were even a player’s parents in the parking lot prior to the final buzzer. I was giving play-by-play to a friend in Midland, TX who was on another phone relaying to folks in the A-State parking lot. It was just a special all around night.

I’m one of five LA Angels of Anaheim fans in the Memphis metro area. And the five of us will be celebrating big time in October. Which will be about the time the Tigers secure their 4th bowl eligible season in five years.

Have you seen the bumper stickers around town?

I’ll leave you with this and it applies to every fan of every school or pro team. Don’t judge your team by a quarter, a half or even a game. The football season is 12 games long. And possibly even 14 games long so don’t judge them until the dust settles in December.
Thank you very much.

Yes, it is sour grapes. You LOST. Get over it. Your fans are classless and your coach is a hot headed redneck.

John Stacy

Get your facts straight before you run your mouth. Your fans were saying some very unkind and unprintable things at our players as they were walking into the LB. He defended his team plain and simple.
One game does not a season make and let’s see who is playing in December and who is not. The thing about it is that we’ll look at this as a bad loss and you’ll look at as the quality win on your schedule when the season is over.
As I said, enjoy the gift. Christmas did come early.

Gift? Which one? The interception shown here?

Notice how Hankins gets pressured and makes a bad mistake…. is that one of those “gifts”. Who should we thank? John Thompson? Your OC for being outcoached because your inferior offensive line couldn’t pick up the blocks? Hankins for making a rookie mistake and throwing the ball under duress? How about Dustion Mouzon for ACTUALLY OUTPLAYING YOUR GUY ON THE FIELD??

What about this one?

Should we thank your special team coordinator for the formation? Should we thank all 6 of your “blockers” for not picking up a single block? I’ll thank Hugh Freeze for outcoaching your coaches…. oh well who else could we thank?

HOW ABOUT THE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD THAT OUTPLAYED THE MEMPHIS STATE TEAM??

You were given quite a few chances in this game. Ole Miss missed a field goal and an extra point, and had a play reversed that was very hard to find “inconclusive video evidence” in, so be glad your team even had a chance. This game was much closer to being a blowout than anything else.

I can’t wait until next week’s blog when you’ll be crying about the Arkansas State loss… who can you blame then? the refs?
