John Stacy, Tiger fan blogger

Someone asked me why I named these blogs “Over the Edge….” I like the band Jackyl and they’ve got a song called “Push Comes To Shove.” In it there is a lyric that says “I’m standing with my toes ‘hanging over the edge.’” The 2nd line in the song is “Your politcal correct world is incorrect I’ve found.” That pretty much sums up my ideology. Music is one of my favorite things in the world. Everytime I write one of these the windows are rattling. My neighbors just love me.

Got to love modern technology when it goes awry. I’m writing this all over again.
Tigers fans who live within 100 miles of Memphis should make every attempt to go to the game tomorrow night. Don’t say “but look who they’re playing.” It isn’t about that. It is about supporting the Tigers. Schools like South Carolina, Kentucky and Northwestern have always packed their stadiums despite having incredibly bad teams. Fill the stadim, show your support and good things will come no matter what bad decisions are made.

The difference between Joe Doss and T.J. Pitts is that Pitts has breakaway speed. Doss is better at fundamentals but he lacks the ability to run away from defenders. I expect T.J. to break few runs for big gains and scores this year.

The Tigers depth will be the key to many wins this year. I’d venture to say that is the most missed fact about this team. They played a lot of guys last year because of injuries. The depth at WR is as good as any team in the country. The fresh legs on the field will be the difference in Tigers wins all year. You can book that the Tigers will win a quite a few in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Speaking of injuries, aren’t the Tigers due for an injury free year? 2005 and 2006 were injury riddled to say the least. I’d venture a guess that the Tigers have lost more starters to injuries in the past two seasons that any other school in the country.

Sometimes your friends can make ya nuts.

I know that a large amount of Tigers fans are Cardinals fans. I’m a big baseball fan. I even built a spreadsheet to chart standings. (Insert get a life joke here) Here’s some facts about the Cardinals you may or may not know. The Cardinals are in the worst division in baseball. The division is so bad that they are closer to the division lead than the wild card leader.

The NL Central has the overall worst winning percentage in MLB at .473. Oh, and for all the love the Yankees and Red Sox get from the national media I have but one question. Would they have such a good record if they didn’t get to play arguably the two worst teams (Orioles and Devil Rays) in baseball 38 times a year.

If you are a student, know a student, or a recent graduate then you should really join the Highland Hundred. Membership is free for students and recent grads. I’ll close with another reminder…..GO TO THE GAME TOMORROW NIGHT!!!

THE BIG STORY

Vanderbilt quarterback Chris Nickson said he’s ready to take on Ole Miss on Saturday, despite an upper leg injury he sustained last week against Alabama.

Nickson got the bulk of the first-team snaps during Thursday’s practice, and the junior is likely to start. He deferred to the coaching staff as to whether he would play.

“It’s not my decision,” said Nickson, who has started 14 straight games. “But I’m going in just like any other Saturday.”

Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson said it will be a gametime decision whether to start Nickson.

“We’ll see how he warms up,” said Johnson said of Nickson, who suffered an upper thigh injury. “It’s more his (gluteus muscle) than his hamstring. You pull a ham when you’re running fast. He sort of got hit. When you’re injured, … you’re getting treatment, treatment, treatment, treatment. He’s been around-the-clock doing that.”
