As you’ll read in Sunday’s paper, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has compiled a map charting all of the counties where EHD-infected whitetail deer have been found.

You can view the map at this link to see if your county is one of the hot zones.

Here’s a look at several interesting facts/comments regarding the University of Memphis’s game against Jacksonville State and, in particular, the path the two head coaches took during the early 1990s.

This will require your full attention.

** In 1989, Jacksonville State coach Jack Crowe, who had spent the previous three seasons as Clemson’s offensive coordinator, was hired to be the University of Arkansas’s offensive coordinator under Ken Hatfield.

** In 1990, Hatfield left Arkansas to become the head coach at Clemson and was expected to take Crowe back to Clemson where he again would serve as the team’s offensive coordinator.

** Minutes before the private plane carrying Hatfield and Crowe to Clemson was scheduled to depart from Fayetteville, Ark., Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles asked Crowe to exit the plane and offered him the Arkansas coaching job.

** Crowe accepted the offer and among his first phone calls was to Tommy West, who had been on the Clemson staff with Crowe and had coached outside linebackers from 1982 to 1989.

** Crowe wanted West to become his defensive coordinator, but West accepted an offer from Johnny Majors to become Tennessee’s running backs coach.

** Three years later, in 1993, West was hired as Clemson’s head coach, replacing Ken Hatfield.
