Yesterday was about a perfect day in football as it gets for me. I know it is shallow and cheesy to enjoy other’s failures but I can’t help myself. Seeing Louisville, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas all lose just left me all warm and fuzzy inside.

It also helps us Tigers to know that Arkansas State must now go into Neyland Stadium to face a….hmm….humbled Vols squad. The politically incorrect team from Jonesboro had better be ready because I got a feeling someone is going to want to make a statement. Maybe playing that game on the 27th wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

Will Hudgens can play as a D-1 QB because he’s got the talent, poise and leadership qualities necesary to do the job. I hope he gets some snaps this year behind the #1 offense just to get in some work. Matt Malouf has really impressed in the few snaps he has played to date. But he’s only pooched (is that the word) punted and ran the ball. But my guess is at some point we’ll see his arm in action. I have mentioned that it will be a great battle for the QB spot next spring and fall already. After seeing Malouf and Hudges in the first two game I now not only hope for a great competition, I expect it to happen. But my pick who wins that competition has changed. Matt’s elusiveness and speed might end up being the difference.

To say the Jacksonville State QB Cedric Johnson is quick and fast (there is a difference) might be a grand understatement. That guy gets around like a hornet on the attack. I talked to a former HS coach during the game and he was impressed with him as well. Too bad that kid couldn’t get the grades to play in D-1. At least that’s the reason I heard as to why he’s at JSU.

I was attacked by a tent yesterday. Yes, you read that correctly. I was standing in the HH lot minding my own business only come under siege by a tent run amuck. At first I thought it was just tipping over but an extra gust of wind lifted it again driving it towards me then crashing down on me. I’ve got a large bruise and some swelling on my right upper arm. My wife told me, “You may be the only person on the planet that would get attacked by a tent.”
