With senior quarterback Seth Adams questionable for Saturday’s game against Florida with a sprained right shoulder, Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron strongly suggested at Monday morning’s weekly press conference that Brent Schaeffer — yes, Brent Schaeffer — could start against the Gators this weekend at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Here’s a quick rundown of the stuff they covered:

Nearly 400 anglers from 24 states will take part in the Crappie USA Classic Oct. 12-13 on Kentucky Lake.
The fishing should be outstanding by then, and I expect a lot of fish to be caught. There may not be any huge crappie brought to the scales because big crappie are hard to find during the fall. But I expect good numbers for all of the anglers.
The teams will be fishing for a seven-fish limit of crappie each day. The tournament weigh-ins will be held on Oct. 12-13 at Paris Landing State Park beginning at 3 p.m.
The weigh-ins are free and open to the public. So if you’re gonna be up that way, you should check it out.

A look at what the hometown papers wrote about Conference USA games over the weekend:
TEXAS 35, CENTRAL FLORIDA 32: With Memphis heading in this weekend, the Knights are thinking back to what might have been against the Longhorns.
UAB 22, ALCORN STATE 0: The Blazers got in the end zone only once and had to settle for five field goals.
SOUTHERN MISS 28, EAST CAROLINA 21: Penalties plagued the Pirates against the Golden Eagles. As for USM, coach Jeff Bower had to order his offense to put on the brakes near the end of the game.
HOUSTON 34, TULANE 10: The Cougars started conference play well, but left some points out on the field. Down New Orleans way, it was a lack of speed that did in the Green Wave.
TEXAS TECH 59, RICE 24: The Owls could do nothing to stop Tech wideout Michael Crabtree.
ARKANSAS STATE 45, SMU 28: Where was the defense, Mustang fans want to know?
NEW MEXICO STATE 29, UTEP 24: The Miners fell prey to a poor second half and NMSU’s strong passing attack.
NEW HAMPSHIRE 48, MARSHALL 35: This isn’t a good sign for the Thundering Herd.
TULSA 55, BRIGHAM YOUNG 47: Watch out for the Hurricane. The offense is making some big noise.

Obviously, John Calipari was onto something when he banned his players from going to nightclubs earlier this month.
Though ugly incidents involving athletes at nightclubs are not uncommon, there seems to have been a rash of college basketball players getting into trouble this summer.
In July, Missouri forward DeMarre Carroll was shot in the ankle after a nightclub fracas.
Just a few days before Memphis’ troubles, five UAB players were cited in a large disturbance.
Now, Pitt point guard Levance Fields is in trouble after getting arrested Sunday for aggravated assault, disarming a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness stemming from events outside a nightclub.

THE BIG STORY
Florida’s convincing 59-20 victory over SEC East rival Tennessee moved the Gators two spots up to No. 3 in the latest Associated Press poll. Now, they hit the road for the first time to play at Ole Miss on Saturday.
“This is a whole different thing,” Florida coach Urban Meyer said of UF’s road trip to Ole Miss this weekend. “One thing I appreciate about our schedule this year is you’ve got to get a routine. So much with athletes and teams is that routine.
“One of the first things I did when I became a head coach was visit (Kansas State coach) Bill Snyder. That’s all he talked about. He wants players to focus on assignments and responsibilities, not where’s my room, where’s the meeting room, what am I eating tonight.
“We have a very set routine that’s going to be all new for these young players. That’s a big concern. That’s a major concern.”
