St. George’s guard Elliot Williams went on his official visit to Virginia last weekend, sparking a new round of stories about his recruitment, which in turn have sparked more speculation about whether he will end up at Memphis, Tennessee, Duke or Virginia.

Here’s a bit of advice for fans of any of those four schools who may be reading this blog: Take a deep breath and don’t give yourself an Elliot Williams ulcer for at least a few more weeks. Reading anything into Elliot’s comments in various newspapers, the order of his visits or what his girlfriend’s cousin’s classmate heard at 31 flavors last night is a waste of nerves. Williams’ recruitment has been as void of legitimate information as any in the country, which doesn’t play well on message boards overrun by rumors.

Here are some things I’ve heard from respected basketball people in Memphis within the past two weeks alone:

– Elliot has eliminated Duke due to playing time concerns.
– Elliot will end up at Duke.
– Elliot wants to play for Memphis, but his parents are lukewarm at best on the Tigers.
– Elliot has been a lock for Virginia all along.
– Elliot is favoring Tennessee.

I think that pretty much has everybody covered. I did hear one more thing, which is probably the closest to the truth: Elliot is somewhat confused and very conflicted. He’s got four options that are all very good for very different reasons, and nobody will really know his decision until the day he announces it. I think I’ll go with that one.
