I am sure most Grizzlies fans held their breath when they heard Kyle Lowry, last season’s surprise standout PG until he broke his wrist, had hurt his ankle in practice. Well today you can let that breath out. Ron Tillery reported on his morning radio program, the Morning Rush with Peter Edmiston, that Kyle not only won’t need surgery but the preliminary forecast was upgraded. While the exact amount of time Kyle will need to recover is still uncertain it sounds like it will be less than the expected week that was originally reported.

Whether or not Kyle will play in the first pre-season game may still be in question but he is out for the Blue and White scrimmage tomorrow. That means the starting PG job is going to be a battle between Mike Conley Jr, the Grizzlies only draft pick and Damon Stoudamire who is rumored to be back to 100% after struggling last season to recover from his patella tendon surgery (remember that when thinking about drafting Cadillac Williams next year in your fantasy draft). Damon’s improved condition should not be a big surprise to people who read me last season on the Grizzlies board as I always predicted it would take two seasons to fully recover from the surgery.

While who will start at Point Guard on opening night remains the biggest question mark for the team, there are plenty of position battles that should be interesting to feel out in tomorrow’s Blue and White scrimmage. The only guaranteed starter right now is Pau Gasol and no one is sure where he will start. Darco Milicic and Hakim Warrick are battling it out to join Gasol in the interior, Mike Miller, Rudy Gay, Tarence Kinsey and Gasol buddy Juan Carlos Navarro are battling for minutes on the perimeter as well. The scrimmage will be the first glimpse to see who is performing the best. With the Spanish games likely to spotlight Navarro more this scrimmage is very important for Tarence Kinsey who has been nursing a shoulder injury he suffered during summer league play.

A special thank you to Randy Stephens, the Senior Vice President of Broadcasting for the Grizzlies. Not only did he help correct an oversight on NBA TV that didn’t list the Grizzlies games in their programming guide but he also found the cable stations that will be showing the games in the Memphis area. Comcast Digital will broadcast the Grizzlies in Spain on channels 221 & 649. Direct TV will be airing the games on channel 601. The Dish Network will air the games on channel 560. No excuse for failing to at least tape the games now. My understanding is that our two games will be shown on NBA TV at the times below.

at Unicaja Malaga Oct. 9 1:00 PM CT

at MMT Estudiantes Oct. 11 11:30 AM CT
Thanks again Randy for making sure everyone knows when our Grizzlies will be on and more importantly where they will be on.

AOL Sports’ blog Fanhouse has an interesting take on Commercial Appeal columnist Geoff Calkins’ article about Pau Gasol. Fanhouse usually has interesting blogs about the Grizzlies and excellent writing (which is something I could improve on).

WHBQ Radio 56 has taped interviews with Damon Stoudamire and Darco Milicic plus a audio interview with Michael Heisley. The radio station seems to be back on board as the most reliable radio source for Grizzlies news and with increased national competition from Fox Radio 68 (formerly Progressive Talk Radio) and ESPN 730 (that has really boosted their signal lateley and that is greatly appreciated from Memphians wanting to hear Chris Vernon in the afternoons) obviously wants to be seen as the local sports show station. Not a bad idea especially in comparison to last season’s hatchet jobs they did on the Grizzlies.

Ron Tillery has a great article on Andre Brown, the newest big man in town as well as an article today on Darko Milicic, the largest free agent signee in Grizzlies history. One can only hope that he turns out to be among the best free agent signees in Grizzlies history but there is little doubt he is the largest person brought in via free agency.

Three Shades of Blue is doing a run down of the best players in the league by position. So far blogger Spartacus has reviewed the Point Guards and Shooting Guards. I also am going to throw in a little self-promotion and ask readers to check out my blog on the site titled “Nobody Loves Us and Why That is a Good Thing.”
