Two straight road wins wasn’t what many of you were expecting, was it? No matter the competition I know many folks had given up on this Tigers team. Better get a bigger gun, they ain’t dead yet.
In 2005 and 2006, the Tigers seemed to always give up points in the final minute of both halves. They have won the last two games by doing just that. The key one was the drive that they scored their final TD on. Kudos to the kids and the coaching staff for clock management as well as play and playcalling. When they got it down inside the 20 Coach West used the clock like a master milking it down. Then calling TO as it hit one to ensure they play wasn’t rushed. It was a thing of beauty.
Martin Hankins really stepped up yesterday. His stat line didn’t tell the whole story. At the end of the 1st half on his TD pass to Earnest Williams he stepped up to avoid pressure and fired a line shot for the TD. I think it was the best pass I’ve ever seen Martin throw. I mean it looked pretty was well as being effective.
“The Clock Call” as it will be known by Tulane folks was the right call. When a player’s forward progess is stopped then he is down. The whistle blew before he went out of bounds. The clock stopped because the play resulted in a first down. When the ball was put into play the clock was restarted. Toledo screwed up when he didn’t use his final TO after seeing the clock still running. In fact the Tulane QB complained w/o calling the TO. Sorry but it was Tulane’s fault the clock ran out not the officials.
I’ve seen a lot of odd things in my life. I’ve been at Hollywood and Vine at the stroke of midnight on New Years. But that pales in comparison to being on Bourbon Street last night. The costumes were simply outrageous. My personal favority was the guy in a Michael Vick jersey with two puppys on leashes and….. Well, you get the idea
I’m watching USM and UCF. Come on USM!!!!!!!!!!! Believe it or not that with any UCF loss the Tigers control their own destiny in the C-USA Eastern Division race. The Tigers win out and we win the east with that Golden Knights loss.
Matt Forte is one heck of a running back. His five consecutive 200 yard games are a testament to that. His offensive line is pretty good too. Well, they’re good run blocking. They’re pass blocking left a little to be desired.
Speaking of offensive linemen, a big kudo to o-line. Tulane was the leading sack defense in C-USA coming into the game. The Tigers gave up NONE. Color me impressed.

John,
I think I’ll use your question on my radio show Tuesday!
Also, I beg to differ with your take on the “clock” play. You are correct about the rule, but that guy was shoved out of bounds. The clock should have stopped. I think they blew the call but it probably wouldn’t have made a difference in the outcome.
