Normally I don’t look at story titles and get upset but the “Eagles Look To Run All Over Tigers” or something to that effect got me a little perturbed. Come on guys they’re still the hometown team and deserve a little dignity.
When I heard about McCrary quitting I am reminded of a lesson my Marine father taught me, don’t get upset about something when you probably don’t know all the facts. Remember that before you pass judgment on any of the parties. Remember the old saying, “there are three sides to every story, yours, mine and the truth.”
The signs will start going up sometime this morning. I’m a little delayed because I have been up all night working on them. You don’t know how much you appreciate your teammates until they’re gone. I hope you like Texas…….(insert expletive). Thanks again to Bill Kincaide and Mike Bowen at Champion Awards for providing the signs. Those guys are a credit to the university and the community.
I’ve spent the last couple of days looking over message boards and listening to talk radio at different times. The conclusion I’ve come to is that quite a few folks out there are nuts. Yes, I’m nuts too but a different kind. We haven’t won the National Championship in November. We aren’t the worst college football team in the country. And we are deserving of a bowl bid when we get six wins. All this has lead me to think that talk radio and message boards have almost ruined college sports. The are 119 D-1A schools that have an average of let’s say 15 coaching jobs on each staff. I figure in the city of Memphis alone we could fill every one of those jobs without even trying. Come on, just be a fan of your school. You’re not an expert and realism should be left for the real things in life. I always seem to come back to this but it bears repeating after all I’ve heard and read this week.
Finally, I come from a family of Kentucky fans. My dad and his 9 siblings were born and raised in the coal mining country of Eastern KY. Only my father is answering his phone after the Gardner-Webb win the other night. Then again, dad’s more of a Tiger these days. Two degrees can turn ya or at least should.
