I won’t pick ‘em all, but I’ve been watching the scores from Lake Hamilton, a suburban Hot Springs school, and I’m afraid Marion is in trouble.

Just think all this time who would thought after playing the toughest schedule in the county, probably in the state. Nobody in their right mind would think that Mitchell would be in the position that they are in. Not only beating the two premire Football schools in the city(Melrose & Crhistian Brothers), but beating them in their own house. Then on top of that blowing up the Region 8-3A competition to win the Region Title. Also riding on a 6 game winning streak. Right now no one in TSSAA 3A want to see Mitchell right now. They are the hottest team in 3A. So look out for all of you non believers who was thinking that this was a down year for Mitchell. All I can tell ya is ,”Ripley, get ready, you’re coming to the Tiger Den @ J.P. Freeman”

Guess some of you aren’t looking at the matchups since you are picking both Arlington and Houston to win and they were playing each other!
November 12th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
I’m shocked at some of the results from this past friday. MUS and CBHS losing at home. CBHS is one that shocks me a lot. The Brothers had the ball with a little over 2 minutes to go in the game down by 7 and one time out. And Locastro doesn’t give his best player the ball. I like Locastro he’s a good guy, but when it comes to the playoffs he’s the Bobby Cox of high school coaching. He seems to go away from what got him to there when the playoffs start. Watson should have had the chance to try to tie the game. Another great year for the Brothers ends dissapointingly because of dumb coaching. Locastro will never win a state title at CBHS until he learns to play it loose in the playoffs.

If you follow high school football in this area like I do, it doesn’t shock me at all. I did pick CBHS to win the game but it doesn’t suprise me that they lost. The fact that MUS lost doesn’t surprise me either since I picked them to lose. The teams that they beat this year were hardly special and they padded their record and stats against weak Memphis city schools. The real football this year is in 5A.
November 12th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
CBHS was one of the top teams in the state this year. The problem for teams like MUS and CBHS is trying to get the good teams in the city and country to play them. CBHS had a series with Germantown that was supposed to be 5 games. Only 2 were played because CBHS beat Germantown both times. CBHS played Covington when they were undefeated twice and beat them both times, CBHS has played Collierville and beat them twice and now Collierville won’t play. Alot of the time it’s not CBHS wanting to play smaller teams it’s that they can’t get other teams to play them. And anyways the private school division in the state of TN is pretty darn good. MBA, Brentwood Academy, Father Ryan, CBHS, MUS could beat any 5A team in the state.
November 12th, 2007 at 11:42 pm
When the perception is (whether it is true or not) that MUS,CBHS,etc (private schools) recruit players, than the county or city schools are not going to play them. Maybe you can answer me why neither one of those teams played White Station this year (who is coached by a former MUS assistant-Major Wright)
If CBHS is that good, have them play South Panola. West Memphis is pretty good every year. I don’t want to hear the excuse about not getting teams to play them. I know of one private school in Kansas City, MO called Rockhurst. Just like CBHS-all boys,tradition,reputation- They have no problem scheduling games. If there isn’t anyone local to play, they find someone. They play teams from Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, Nebraska.
Besides just because of the way the league was divided this year doesn’t mean that both CBHS and MUS couldn’t have played BA,MBA,Ryan, etc… during the regular season. I will at least give MUS a little credit. They played Olive Branch & Cookville.
November 13th, 2007 at 2:10 am
CBHS has played South Panola before and they have beaten south panloa they are one of the last teams to beat them, but tell me why Germantown chickened out of playing CBHS after CBHS whooped them two years in a row. CBHS plays melrose every year which is a tough game no matter what anybody says. CBHS also played woodale and ridgeway this year. Sometimes you schedule teams hoping they will be tough when they turn out to not have good teams there is nothing you can do. While i was a sophomore at CBHS we playe Madison Central who at the time had Stephen Gostowski, Doug Buckles, and Mike Espy on the team. CBHS handed it to them for 3 quarters until Madison wore them down in the 4th. Any team in the state of Tennesse would have it handed to them by South Panola I would even put money on it. Also before the split CBHS would beat up on White Station, Bartlett, Millington, and Houston. The region they played in the Brothers never lost a game. That was a region with I believe Whitehaven, Central (this was when Central was good), Hamilton, and I believe Fairley. CBHS owned that region year in and year out. The problem came when they had to play teams from middle tennessee. Thats the problem with the football in memphis. They roll over the local competition, but when it comes to playing teams from the middle and eastern part of the state they can’t win. Thats mainly because the competition in memphis isn’t as good as it is in the other parts of the state. Unlike most state I believe the private shool teams in TN are just as good as the public school teams. But i will agree that Locastro needs to man up and toughen his schedule, but before he does that he needs to learn how to coach in the playoffs.
