This week I feel like paying tribute to the Tigers by looking into the numbers put up by the Tigers offense this season. This blog is (as the title states) is the incredible season Martin Hankins had in 2007.

Wanting to avoid possible second matchups with Gonzaga and Tennessee next season, coach John Calipari called organizers of the Old Spice Classic in Orlando and informed them that Memphis will not be participating in 2008.
The field for next year’s Old Spice Classic, which is being advertised on the tournament’s Web site, still includes Memphis along with UT, Gonzaga, Maryland, Wichita State, Michigan State, Oklahoma State and Siena. Memphis currently has games scheduled with Gonzaga and Tennessee for 2008-09 — both on the road. Initally, Calipari said he would participate in the tournament, as long as Memphis was on a different side of the bracket from those two teams. The problem is, Tennessee has scheduled a non-conference series with Gonzaga as well, so they want to be on different sides of the bracket too. So Memphis simply pulled out and will look for a different tournament to play in next November.
Here’s my suggestion: How about the Puerto Rico Shootout? With Angel Garcia joining the Tigers, I would think Memphis would sell out the joint. Given how poor attendance has been across the board in these preseason tournaments, that in and of itself would be an accomplishment.
