The Tigers took a third straight day off from practice Friday, though players did come into the Finch Center to lift weights, watch film and run. Talking to several players Friday after they had a chance to reflect on the USC game, it’s clear they weren’t happy with parts of their performance. Obviously, they’re thrilled to beat USC, but they know they can play better and have some things to figure out. They’ll spend a lot of time this week making adjustments, I think. Now that the Tigers have had a couple days off to concentrate on their final exam preparation, I expect tomorrow’s practice to be a spirited one.

So, I wonder if anyone asked the players about the following quote? “…but something just doesn’t seem to be quite right about this team. It’s hard to exactly put your finger on it, but they haven’t come close to playing a complete game yet (and how good are Connecticut and USC anyway?), and several players individually are not performing close to their potential.”
What is not “quite right”?
“Hard to put your finger on”, but easy to write about I guess.
“Several players individually are not performing close to their potential”, who are these players Dan. I mean it was an opinion piece right? Go ahead, tell who you think is slacking, we are all dying to know.
Here’s a novel idea… how about responsible journalism?

It is not ,irresposible journalism, to throw out a
talking point and let people who see the same game
as the writer to make their own decision. Beat writer is a title, not beat up the team writer.
The tigers are not a pro team, they are a college
team, the same rules of coverage, calling out,etc
do not apply and should not apply.
2007 - lost 2 NBA draftees,dwash, no pressure to
perform like 2008 when the billboards,CBS,etc
hold you out to constant critique.
I think we should take 7-0 and #2 and enjoy the ride, quit micro managing and worry about the game
12/15 not 4/7. This close to the prize puts everyone on edge, just chill.

Coach Cal said it best” just be the best team on the floor when the buzzer sounds” 7/0 sound like that to me. Coach Cal is the professional here, let him do his job and fix the “something not quite right” problem. These young men have pressure put on them every day. We are as close to perfection as we can get. One game at a time. An ugly win still shows a pretty “W”. Go Tigers!

I am a die heart Tiger Fan, and would love to cut down the nets in April. Furthermore, Cal is the best recruiter I’ve ever seen and he is very charming. However, his coaching philosophy is that of an idealist. At what point does he just get an assistant coach that can coach and stick to P.R. Don’t get me wrong I like him alot however I don’t understand him. Derek Rose is undoubtedly the best athelete on team but that does not mean he is “the team.” We have an Elite 8 team therefore we are not in need of a savior. Rose is struggling to find himself and it comes at the teams expense. This is too familiar remember Wagner he totally destroyed Kelly Wise’s future and almost did the same to Earl Barron. Rose would make an excellent 6th man but Cal won’t do it because he wants to recruit more 1 and done players like Tyreke Evans. Wille Kemp should be starting and so should Donnel Mack. Antonio Anderson is good but he’s does not deserve to start. Listen Cal please put your best players on the floor whom ever it may be. Enough is enough, if you keep going the way you’re going you will be the “laughing stock” of basketball. Cal it is all about chemistry not philosophy.

It is irresponsible journalism to try to make talking points out of idle speculation. What’s worse is that it is the beat writer’s own idle speculation.
He’s not commenting on someone else’s speculation, he’s making it up as he goes along -or- he says he has a “feeling something is not quite right about this team”. And writes nothing to back it up.
That’s irresponsible.

Keep it up, Dan. Let them bury their heads in the sand and keep their collective thumb up their a**. If you don’t think the Tigers can be even better than they already are, then your homerness has gotten the best of you.

Dan is not the one who we need to not bury his head in the sand. Coach Cal needs to keep his head above everyone else. He needs to see what is coming at the Tigers every game! Who knows what we will be seeing this year. We are the team to beat so we have to be ready and not be neutalized like the USC game. Hey but we will be going up against some great basketball coaches.
What more could we ask for?
Dan’s column helps all of us express our thoughts and gives us something to do between games. Try listing to all the other talking heads! They makes my blue blood boil! Go Tigers!
