There was a lot of confusion during the USC game on how many fouls Joey Dorsey had in the first half. Myself, and many other media members, thought he picked up his second foul early in the half (the referee made the call and signaled No. 3 to the scorer’s table). We were bewildered when he came back in just a few minutes later, since John Calipari will almost always sit him down for the rest of the half in that situation.
As it turned out, Dorsey only had one foul since what appeared to be the second foul was changed to Antonio Anderson. Here’s the funny thing, though. Dorsey thought he had two fouls when he went back in the game.
“Mayo came to the hole, and I tried to block his shot, and that was a foul. And then I picked up another foul and I was like, man I’m letting my team down again. That’s why I was playing so timid.
Then coach said they gave it to somebody else, I started playing a little more aggressive because there were only five minutes left in the first half.”
