Doesn’t look like a big crowd tonight in Cincinnati to see the No. 2 team in the country. It’s eight minutes before tip-off, and there can’t be more than 3,000 people in the building. Still, I think this will be a tough game for the Tigers. It’s their first true road game, and I am just not sure they’re ready to walk into an opponent’s building and just stomp them. If Cincinnati plays with the same passion and enthusiasm that they did against Xavier last week, this one could be close.
On another note, I ended up giving a ride to an NBA scout from the hotel to the arena. He’s seen Memphis play several times in person already this season, and here were some of his impressions.
– Derrick Rose is special, and this particular scout would take him over anybody else in this freshman class.
– Joey Dorsey is a guy that the scouts are scared to write off because of his body and his athleticism. But, obviously, some of his immaturity is scary as well. They want to see him be a Reggie Evans-type player in the NBA.
– Chris Douglas-Roberts is one of the hardest guys in college basketball to figure out from an NBA standpoint. The way he scores — the runners, the floaters, etc. — isn’t the way people score in the NBA. They want to see how he’ll score off screens, off pick-and-rolls, etc.
Anyway, enjoy the game.

I’m no NBA scout, but I seem to remember that in one of the greatest pick and roll offenses of all time, John Stockton was known for his floater/runner.
To see people scoring with floaters or runners in today’s NBA, one might just watch a Suns or Spurs game (or many others as well).
Sure, CDR would do well to show more conventional versatility, as well as his unconventional versatility. I don’t think that will be a problem for him, I just don’t think it’s really his role or how the Memphis offense works.
However, his ability to create his own shot, whether it be a dunk, layup, floter, runner, pull-up jumper, or post-up is a talent that also allows him to create for others.
All that being said, for the record, I don’t think enough NBA scouts will be on the bandwagon for him to be a first-round lock this year, and I think he will take another year at Memphis to continue to hone his game.

No scout here either, but if the Grizz want to see
a lot of us former ticket holders, my group had 5
courtside, put Joey Dorsey on this lame defensive team and make it fun to watch again. Darko and Pau
don’t do anything for me, put JD with Rudy,Kyle,
Mike,Mike. The toughest guy on our team is Tony
Barone Sr. We need that guy. It’s still in my craw
when Kobe plunked Mike Miller that it didn’t seem to bother anybody on the Grizz roster. Before anyone says knucklehead,Rodman was a knucklehead too but darn was he fun to watch. Put JD on the team , but then I’m not a scout,I buy tickets.
