Who else thought the Tigers played well under their bar last night? The talent on this team is so superior to most teams in the country so much so that they can shoot poorly and still blow a team out. If the Tigers had gotten even lukewarm from 3-point range last night they would have won by 40.
The win last night was also an example of just how deep this team is. Andre Allen, Doneal Mack and Willie Kemp got 20 minutes or more last night. The three of them accounted for over a third of the team’s minutes. Folks, we’re talking the 6-7-8 guys on the bench and the team still wins by 27. Wow, that’s all you can say.
The depth factor is going to be important come March on several fronts. The fact that a lot of guys are playing means the starters are resting more. Take a guy like Tyler Hansbrough who is playing 30.6 minutes a game. Joey only averages six fewer minutes a game. So who is going to be stronger by season’s end in that NCAA tournament? I’ll say the guy with less wear and tear on his body by playing 20% fewer minutes. The whole Tigers starting five is like that. They are conditioned to play 40 buy none average more than 27.7. I like our chances. The other benefit is by the bench guys playing a lot an injury is going to be less damaging to the Tigers than most other teams. It also keeps guys happy. A playing player is happier than a non-playing player.
Hashim Bailey is hurt. I don’t know if everyone seems to know that.
Ah, Houston a haven for Tigers basketball and football. Cal is 6-1 and Tommy West is 4-0 in the city that is home to NASA. (Sorry but I can’t resist this really bad pun) That’s really out of this world numbers.
A friendly reminder that now is a good time to renew or join the TSF. The truth of the matter is that our donations is what will help the program keep on the upswing. You can spread the minimum $100 donation over six payments which comes out a rounded up $17 a month. That’s .56 cents a day. Heck, make one fewer trip to a coffee shop every week and that will pay for it. It is not asking very much to keep building the foundation of our athletic programs. Call the Tigers Scholarship Fund office at 678-2334 for more information.
