ONE, #1, Número uno, Numéro un, Nummer ein, Numere Aquele, Исчисля один, no matter the language it sounds good doesn’t it? I keep trying to remain calm about this but I’ve waited 25 years for another #1 ranking. Sure it wasn’t as long as we waited for a bowl game but a quarter of a century is a long time.

A part of me thinks that the writers and coaches will stupidly vote Kansas #1. That same part thinks that would be a good thing. The motivation of being shunned by the voters would inspire this team like you wouldn’t believe. It would put a “we have to show them” attitude in every game from here on out. It would make me feel sorry for our opponents.

Cal made a point last night in his post-game show about how last night’s atmosphere would influence any recruit to come to Memphis. I’m pretty sure he was talking about basketball recruits but can you imagine how it might have helped the football recruiting last night?

They showed the temperature on the scoreboard in Green Bay a few minutes ago. It was a balmy -9 degrees. I got cold just looking at it. This game will be this generation’s Ice Bowl. I remember the Ice Bowl. It had an influence on me for years and even today. It is also the reason I dislike the Cowboys to this day. How dare they try to stand in the way of the Packers.

Speaking of the Packers, have you ever heard the Jimmy V speech during the ESPY’s? First of all it is about inspirational as it gets. But the story about how he copied a Vince Lombardi speech is priceless. You may or may not be a fan of the NFL but today and the Super Bowl warrant watching. The New England Patriots assault on a perfect season and Bret Favre’s twilight championship run are what sports are supposed to be about.

Did you know that the Tigers have had 8 guys be or tie for the highest game scorer honors? That is an impressive stat if you ask me. The Tigers have 10 guys who play 10 minutes or more. Those 10 guys have combined for 61 double digits games. That, boys and girls, is why they have a great shot at the National Championship because if your defense foucuses on stopping one guy, nine others can beat you.

Anyone who doesn’t think that a crowd doesn’t make a difference then you were paying attention last night. Those 18,660 that are in the FEF help a kid play with more intensity. The flip side of that was Wednesday at Rice. There were barely 250 people there. The teams were lethargic and appeared bored. A loud, rambunctious can motivate your team to play above and beyond. The truth is that butts in the seats are helpful in getting the home team a win. I’ve seen it with my own eyes and have had too many former players tell me the same thing. So they next time you hear or read someone say that, simply call the uninformed. Or you could do more, who am I to say?

We’re NUMBER FREAKIN’ ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
