Sorry for my absence but sometime life lets us know what is really important. Seeing your 45-year-old sister on a respirator let’s you know exactly what life is about. I’m also happy to say that she is recovering quite nicely. She’s out of ICU and a couple of days away from going home. Thanks to my friends for their thoughts and prayers throughout this ordeal. It meant a lot to me and my family.

I said last week that I was going to start going over issues regarding the on-campus stadium. That was put on hold. But I shall get rocking on that on Tuesday. It needs to be said because it seems not everyone is aware of the actual facts.

I have also attended both games during the time she has been sick. Why you ask? Because the Tigers did for me what they’ve always done. They let me escape from reality for a few hours. Of course, I tended to yell a little more and stood most of the time but hey I was a little wound up.

What happened to the “Welcome to Frayser” sign on 240? I wasn’t there yesterday. When did it disappear? Then again, why was it there in the first place?

9 guys made 3’s yesterday. That might be one of the most fascinating stats of the season. But it is also an indicator of just how balanced this Tigers team is. I still want to see Joey Dorsey make one. If he does it at home the house comes down.

I sat next to a guy and his son yesterday who were attending their first game of the year. He didn’t seem too impressed with the offense. I’m thinking we scored 83 points. That’s impressive if you ask me.

Thanks Jay Bilas and Steve Lavin for dissing the Tigers once again. Keep saying a team is better. It seems that every week they say this team or that team is better than the Tigers. Once that team loses it is another who is better. Keep it up, you’re quite the motivators.

I happened to see Dickie V’s six pack last night. I had to wonder just how did he leave CDR off that list?

This might be a bit off topic but that’s never stopped me before. Doesn’t it seem a little too convenient that Dale Jr won his first race? I’m not saying, I’m just saying.

Watching a Tigers fast break is a very wonderful thing. The speed and decision making are second to none.

Now I’m really going off topic. Ok, you see the picture next to the blog. My wife hates my long hair. My deal has always been that a Liberty Bowl bid or better would get me to cut my hair. I approached the guy who would be cutting it had one of those two things had happened with a proposal of adding a stipulation for a haircut. He agreed to it. If the Tigers cut down the nets in San Antonio I will get a cut the next day. It will be the same barber, just a different championship. Look, I’m simply superstitious. I have cut the hair twice in the last 4 years. Once in 2004 and we went on the lost 6 of our next 11 football games. I also cut it prior to the 2006 football season and we went 2-10. So I get a little funny about it. Now my wife is really into the basketball games. She will watch and root like never before. And she not exactly a sports fan.

Does anyone else see one of those house divided signs and think of Abraham Lincoln’s quote, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” I wonder what the divorce rate is among those folks.

Response to “Over the Edge…”

Pat

At one time Frayser was a town onto itself. It was a place where dads worked at Firestone, Harvester, MLG&W, MPD or MFD but most moms stayed home. Every elementary school had a football team for 3 different age levels as well as several basketball teams and multiple baseball teams. Parents would come to the games and you knew your neighbors. Frayser was a self supporting community with (at the time) limited access.

Why the “Welcome to Frayser” sign? Because if you worked in Frayser, you lived in Frayser. If you were coming to Frayser, you were either coming home or you were coming to visit someones home.
