If you want to know why this Selection Sunday will be unlike any other I can remember, just look at Joe Lunardi’s “Bracketology” today on ESPN.com.

He has Memphis as the No. 1 seed in the South Region, with a second-round matchup against either (8) Clemson or (9) Ohio State.

If Ohio State is in the NCAA Tournament — much less as a No. 9 seed — I shudder to think of the quality of team that will occupy seed lines 10, 11 and 12. Here’s Ohio State’s profile:

- 16-8 overall, 7-4 in the Big 10.
- No. 38 in the RPI
- Strength of Schedule ranked 23rd
- 2-7 record against the RPI top-50
- Good wins: Syracuse, Florida
- Bad losses: at Iowa

Sorry, but in most years, the Buckeyes are a bubble team at best. Even the 7-4 conference record is deceiving. The wins are against Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa, Illinois again, Minnesota, Penn State and Michigan. And the Buckeyes still have games against Michigan, Northwestern and Minnesota left on the schedule. Are you serious?
