The UAB band opened up by playing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Will it be an appropriate soundtrack for tonight’s game? Possibly. The atmosphere is definitely right for it, but I’m not sure the team is. If Robert Vaden can’t get much done tonight with his injured groin, the Blazers will be in real trouble tonight. If Vaden is good — and when he’s good, he’s really good — this could be very interesting.
There are a lot of Memphis fans in the crowd here. Though it’s definitely not the 3,000 or so that were predicted on message boards, there is a lot of blue sprinkled throughout Bartow Arena, not counting sections 225 and 226 which are filled with Memphis fans.
UAB really needs this one. Crazy as it sounds, the Blazers have an outside shot to make the NCAA Tournament. The bubble is really that weak this year, and the win over Kentucky will look better and better for both UAB and Houston. If UAB can pull off a win tonight, you’ll hear a lot more talk about the Blazers and the NCAAs, despite some brutally bad losses on the resume.
If you take emotion out of the equation, the Tigers should win this one by 15. But emotion counts for a lot in college basketball, and it wouldn’t shock me if tonight was the night they went down. Interesting question: Given a choice between losing tonight and beating Tennessee next Saturday, which would you choose Tiger fans?

If I had to choose, I would say beat UT. A conference road loss is more acceptable than a non-conference home loss, even to the number 4 team in the country.

Dan,
For those of us who couldn’t get the game on TV, can you give us some post-game insight today or tomorrow? Specifically, there is an ESPN highlight of the post-game press conference where Cal says, and I paraphrase, “we found out today that some of our guys can’t play in the big games”. Who was he referring to? What was going on with Dorsey last night?
Help us out!

Dan,
I watched the game but would like insight as to what happen after the game…I know Wolo couldnt talk to players, but did talk to CAl and I heard Taggart’s nose was broken, rumors abound on the web. UAB fans saying Andre threw a chair . Piere punched a fan.. Memphis fans saying whiskey bottles thrown and urine showered on our players. Give us some news from the scene please

Well now we do have a great rivalry brewed in CUSA. All the intensity of Duke-NC, Kansas-Texas
etc and a great escape on the road. It should be
noted the UAB team did not throw bottles or
create the mess caused by the student section
played hard and came up short and we need to be
take the high road on 3/8 and just win baby !
Joey took some hits but he did get the most important rebound of the game that led to CDR’s 3 pointer at 38 secs.
What a great game for our confidence proving
these guya sre truly TIGERS in every sense.
