I’m avoiding all temptation of saying anything about what might be.
CSTV is terrible. I don’t know where they got this Carter Blackburn fellow but he’s terrible. He seems lost during key moments of the game. Gillen does ok and I was surprised by the positive things Packer had to say Wednesday but it is difficult to overcome CB’s shortcomings. I guess he isn’t as bad as the CSS guys. At the end of the UAB game they said, “They’re looking at the replay to see if he was fouled.”
That skirmish prior to the USM game might be just what Joey Dorsey needed. He seem more focused and unflappable during the game. And they were trying to tick him off.
I think I have figured out how NCAA games are called. They either call everything down low or they let everything go. If they are doing the former then they are less likely to call hand checks, etc. If they go with the latter then expect every little reach called on the perimeter. Oh there is one other way, they just miss everything and are essentially incompetent.
Am I the only one who watches this team and never waivers in my belief they are going to win? These kids just play with such a cool demeanor that allows them to function in pressure situations. It is almost as if they switch something on and just make it happen. This is as poised a basketball team as we’ve ever seen at Memphis. Even in the loss to Tennessee they could have folded at points and never did.
The turning point of the Tulsa game Wednesday night (that was missed by the TV crew when I watched the replay) was the fact that Tulsa did not score a point for 6:52 seconds in the middle of the 1st half. It was if the Tigers said no more points for you.
I really need to learn to ignore the national media. It amazes me that they have an obvious bias. I’m not saying the Tigers are head and shoulders above everyone else. But to say that teams like UCLA, Kansas and North Carolina are far and away better than Memphis or even Tennessee is ludicrous. UCLA has lost to 16-14 Washington who is at least on par with UAB and Houston. North Carolina lost to an average Maryland team AT HOME. Kansas has lost a so-so Oklahoma State. Being the best doesn’t mean you will win them all. In fact, the best often loses games they shouldn’t. Each of the above has struggled against much lesser teams as well. The fact is that some great teams have lost games in the past 32 years. So to discount the Tigers (and as much as it pains me to say this) and Tennessee is stupid. The bias against Memphis is OBVIOUS. The #2 Tigers weren’t mentioned on Sportscenter until 20 minutes or so into the show.
Oh, and they said something else that got me going, “The SEC is the best conference in the country.” I’m sorry SEC folks that’s simply not true. 2-10 against Top 25 teams outside the SEC does not the best conference make. Tulane swept Georgia, Auburn and LSU. UAB and Houston have UK as wins. I’m not saying that C-USA is better. I’m saying that the PAC-10 and ACC are much better than the SEC.
Was Barnum and Bailey in Hattiesburg yesterday? I haven’t seen that many circus shots go in ever before.
And finally, I’m not stereotyping here but Tennessee fans have shown the butts to me and my family this week. One threatened to hit me then accused our players of being thugs. Now that’s irony. Then my daughter had “29 Hours? Really?” on her car. That got her flipped off and cussed at by a 40 something year old UT fan. I know some reasonable UT fans but I am seeing these types of UT fans more often than not.
I didn’t feel so bad about the Lady Tigers when I saw the Fordham’s women went 0-29 on the season. That is just pitiful.

I could not agree with you more Stacey. These UT fans act as if they have never heard of sportsmanship. Well, what should we expect from REDNECK hillbillies???
And there Coach, Bruce Pearl is a joke. There are still many fans at UT that would like to get rid of him even though he is winning. Oh yeah, JP; we will call you JP= “Just Pitiful” in the Vanderbilt game. You have not had a good game since you have been at UT except when you hit 13 points against Memphis on our bad day and that is just a fact.
Stacey, you are absolutely correct when you stated there were so many circus shots being made along with the crazy calls that they were getting made me so angry that I took a break from the TV for awhile and came back in the second half. What are these Referees thinking??? in Hattieburg. excuse my spelling. We sale there house allowing them to make some money for the first in who knows when and they politely start to make bad calls after bad calls until Coach Cal received a Technical to stop the madness.
At our earliest convenience, we need to leave Conference USA. Every team with the exception of Houston cheat us or are trying to pull us back in the pack. We definitely need to get in another Conference and then see how well the other teams would do. Conference USA would not even be mentioned on any telecast if it was not for Memphis.
And to be treated like they did yesterday by the Conference Referees is disenchanting to say the least. Oh yeah, Stacey, I hope and pray none of the UT thugs hurt your daughter or anyone in your family. They simply have no class. I do not think they even know how to spell class.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep on STEPPING toward the big DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
