I offer up this ballot without comment, aside from the No. 1 debate. Like I said last week, you could pick any of three or four teams as No. 1 and make a good argument. The one piece of evidence we do have is that Tennessee beat Memphis head-to-head in Memphis just three Saturdays ago. I have no compelling reason at this point to move Memphis ahead of Tennessee. I moved UCLA down from No. 1 because they would have lost to either Stanford or California without some help from the officials.

the dude

UNC should clearly be #1, UT got beat and should not retain its #1 ranking! Only an SEC bootlicker could vote them as the #1 team in the nation.

Jason

Dan,

UNC should be number 1 but I told you about UCLA, they got more calls than any team so far this year (just in the last two games). I feel sorry for the team that has to play them on the west coast in the NCAA’s. UCLA should have dropped two more, if not for the officials.

How about UNC beating Duke when Duke was fouling them each time into the paint and they got no calls. I wondered how my Tigers would have responded in a similar situation…..

Rick Cooper

Dan, I like the fact you dropped UCLA since they should have lost at least one (probably 2). Out of curiosity, how far would you have dropped them if they had in fact lost both games?

I still disagree with having UT over Memphis, but I understand why. In my opinion, UofM is the better team, but they did lose on their own floor. And that has to be worth something.

Finally, in your opinion, who should I want to pop up as the 2 seed to Memphis (assuming they remain a 1 seed)?

Thanks for your work.

head to head matchups are obviously the key.

therefore, you cannot rank Mississippi lower than Arkansas, since MS beat AR, and you can’t rank AR lower than Vandy, and you can’t rank Vandy lower than TN, and you obviously can’t rank TN lower than Memphis. The top 5 should be as follows:

1. Mississippi
2. Arkansas
3. Vanderbilt
4. Tennessee
5. Memphis

Just having a little fun with you, but I don’t see why that logic only applies in one case…

Actually I don’t care at all what you rank the Tigers or what the poll says. Polls have nothing to do with seeds, and that and the quality of play is all that matters now.

I could argue your point too, but I just had to point out the limits of your argument and have a little fun with it.

Do us all a favor Dan….As soon as another job offer opens up…take it!

Tenn number 1 when they lost the most recent.

Clueless…absolutely clueless.

How you managed to keep putting Texas into the Top Five is sickening. Your love fest with them all season is beyond sad. Perhaps see if Texas has an opening.

Should UNC get the overall #1 NCAA tournament seed (if they win their conference tournament of course) although they’ve only beat one ranked team. And that was only recently, being Duke. Other than that, the only team that had been ranked earlyl in the season was Clemson (#13 I think) but by the time they played UNC, they fell out of the rankings. So UNC’s schedule looked pretty darn weak if you ask me. If anyone should be the overall #1 NCAA seed, it should be either UCLA, Memphis or Tenn. At least the only Tiger loss was to the #2 ranked team, and they’ve won against all others, ranked or not. What do you think?

MoonDog

I honestly believe UNC deserves to be No. 1 for now. They beat a good Duke team on the road and their RPI is strong. We’ll see how it shakes out when the polls are released.

I appreciate the fact Memphis was ranked number one for awhile, and we lost it in a fair fight with Tennessee. Now we just have to see how we do in the big dance, but I do think putting the number two team in their home state isn’t right when the number one team isn’t. I can’t understand the logic of that. I would rather be ranked lower to avoid that happening again. By the way, I do think home court does matter and I don’t want to see Tenn again till the championship game.
