I went to Sardis Lake Friday evening with Chris Brown of Strike King Lure Company.
As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, the white bass fishing on Sardis in March is some of the best I’ve ever experienced.
My intention Friday was simply to see if the white bass are biting yet.
They are, but they’re not red-hot by any means.
We fished about three hours and caught 25 or 30. We kept 20 that we ended up giving away.
They’ve eliminated the creel limits for white bass on Sardis, and Mississippi conservation officials are encouraging anglers to keep every one they catch. Still, we couldn’t resist throwing back a few of the smaller ones.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, I would definitely recommend the trip. Just don’t expect to catch them by the hundreds.

Doesn’t look like the weather will cooperate but thanks for the information. Mind sharing which lure you were using?

Not at all.
I caught my first fish on an 1/16th-ounce Uncle Ted’s Jig in the blue/white/blue color pattern.
After that, I decided it was too windy to throw that little jig all afternoon.
I switched to a Strike King Series 3 crankbait - the solid white model with the red “Bleeding Bait” hooks. That’s what I caught the rest of my fish on.
Chris caught one fish on a Strike King Diamond Shad before switching to a Series 3. Believe it or not, the Series 3 color he was using is called “sexy shad.”
I think Kevin VanDam was the one who nicknamed it that.
Like I said, the bite isn’t fast down there. But you can catch a good mess of fish if you work at it.

Was the shad crank Shartruse? That’s a good color this time of year. The water must be pretty clear to use a white colored bait.
Thanks for sharing the info.

The water is actually a little stained. But for whatever reason, I’ve always had better luck with lighter colored baits down there.
I stick with what works.
They call that being stubborn.
