Wow, 100 wins in 3 seasons. That, ladies and gentlemen, is one helluva accomplishment. I have looked in newspapers and other media sources online and didn’t see it mentioned. The fact of the matter is that the Tigers are in rarified air with those 100 wins and no one seems interested in the media.
In the did you know category, last night’s 24-point victory was the largest winning margin for the Tigers in the NCAA since the Tigers drubbed Ball State 95-63 in a first round game at Baton Rouge on March 13th, 1986. That’s right. It is the largest MOV in the Cal era. The last time the Tigers were a #1 seed in ‘06 the beat Oral Roberts by 16. Last year as a #2 seed they beat North Texas by 15. If I’m not mistaken they played in the Elite Eight BOTH of those years. As the #1 in ‘06 they gave up 78 points to Oral Roberts. I didn’t hear anything about the defense lacking that afternoon if memory serves me correct. It was also 10 points below UTA’s seasonal average. I’ll take that especially when the Tigers killed more clock in the final 10 minutes that they have all year.
Did you know that Cal is now 8-4 in the NCAA during his tenure at Memphis? That makes him 20-6 in the post-season including the NIT. Now if you want to toss in the C-USA tournaments then the Tigers under Cal are 34-11 in games after the schedule ends. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.
I really felt badly for Belmont the other night. But you HAVE to make plays in the final seconds if you expect to win games. The inablity to make an inbounds pass is a major ingredient in the recipe for failure. Wait, what as I using food for, since it is Belmont I should have done it in a musical context. They were unable to tempo primo in the closing notes of the song which caused it to fail.
Another did you know….Did you know that of the Tigers 18 fouls last night 13 were on the big guys (Dorsey, Dozier, Taggert and Robinson). That is what hurt stopping the Mavericks down low as it took away some aggressiveness.
Congrats to Mississippi State on winning their game last night. The Bulldogs will be the Tigers next opponent so I tend to check up on them. They have six guys who average 17 minutes or more. 4 of which played more than 31 minutes a game. That is good for the Tigers especially if we simply take care of the basketball and run a bit.
Here’s to the Tigers playing both Hansbrough brothers this year. Hmm, I wonder if that has happened before? I’ll leave that question out there, has a team ever competed against brothers in the same NCAA tournament in the same year on different teams?
Dear CBS, ESPN, Fox Sports, SI, local talk show hosts, and any other media member out there, PLEASE continue to say the Tigers can’t win. Do not pick us under any circumstance. Especially you Seth Davis.
Congrats to Bob Huggins for leading his WVU team to a win over Duke today. Seeing Duke lose always makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Wow, what a dumb article. No one cares about 100 wins because you have not done anything in the tournament the past three years. You say, “oh, we have made it to the sweet 16, blah blah blah.” Yeah, because you are a 1 seed due to the fact that you play 30+ games a year against schools that should be playing in DII. Everyone knows if you are a 1 seed you do not play anyone until the second weekend. Do you see a pattern? Run up a bunch of meaningless wins in the reg. season and then get pounded by half-way decent competition in the tournament. Congrats.

You really need to do some fact checking before you press enter.
That’s back to back Elite Eights not Sweet Sixteens. How many schools can make that claim? I know another school in the state that hasn’t made ONE Elite Eight in their history much less back to back trips to that level. Don’t forget the Tigers had to beat Texas A&M in a road game last March to get to the EE which was not an easy task.
Now onto the “30+ games against teams that should be playing D-II.” So what you’re saying that of the 9 teams (8-1 against them by the way) the Tigers played in the NCAA tournament half to them should be sent down to D-II. Which ones would you send down? I’m sure you’ll start with Austin Peay and Siena (who beat Vandy in round 1). Now you’d have to pick between UConn, Oklahoma, USC, Cincinnati, Arizona, Georgetown and Tennessee. Which of those get relagated to D-II? Think carefully as the Tigers beat them all by 10+ points with the lone exception of the loss to Tennessee.
Houston and UAB both beat the team with the 2nd best record in the SEC in Kentucky. Tulane was 3-0 against the SEC with wins over Auburn, LSU and eventual SEC tournament champion, Georgia. The Tigers finished the season 3rd in the RPI and a SOS of 27th. There were 3 bad teams in C-USA other than that C-USA was at least competitive.
The SEC went 2-10 against top 25 competition outside their conference this season. Two teams that finished .500 or less in their OOC schedules finished wih the 2nd and 3rd best conference records. Six SEC teams got into the NCAA and only 1 will play in the second weekend. SO what do these facts say about the SEC?
See it is possible to make an argument without hyperbole.
