…and it’s not pretty.
This afternoon, I got several e-mails in my inbox and read a couple message board posts from Memphis fans with snarky comments about assistant coach Josh Pastner because of today’s news that Emmanuel Negedu has chosen to play basketball at Tennessee.
A quick sampling:
“I wonder if Pastner gets a pay cut.”
“First week on the job, and JP couldn’t get it done. Cal must be pissed, as I know I am.”
(Quick background: When he wa sat Arizona, Pastner recruited Negedu there and got him to sign a letter-of-intent last fall. When Pastner and other staff members left, Negedu asked out of his letter and went back into the recruiting process.)
Folks, settle down. If not for Josh Pastner, Memphis wouldn’t have been in the mix for Negedu at all. Tennessee, if you remember, recruited Negedu before he signed with Arizona. Memphis did not. Negedu was smart to base his decision on more than an assistant coach. If he felt more comfortable with the overall situation at Tennessee, wish him well and move on.
Unfortunately, “Kentucky fan syndrome” seems to have hit. Kentucky fans are notorious for blaming their own coaches, making accusations about opposing coaches or badmouthing kids when they choose to play at a different school. Memphis fans would be smart not to mimic those tactics, especially since we’re not talking about the second coming of Wilt here. Negedu is a nice player who will likely have a decent career at Tennessee, but he’s not a program changer. It’s highly unlikely he would have magically solved Memphis’ rebounding question marks next season, especially playing power forward at 6-5 (having stood next to him, I can vouch for the 6-7 listing as a complete fabrication). The Tigers would have liked to have had him, but they’ll get by. If not for the ego blow of losing a recruit to Tennessee, this wouldn’t be a bitter loss at all.

Very good article Dan! I did not like the few posts that were negative about D Mack. Wish him well, he is a nice young man. It is always a bitter pill to lose any thing to UT..ok football is forgone conclusion but..have some class!!! UT fans spewed real trash about the 2 kids that were kicked off the program. And the snarky comments about Sallie signing with Memphis would curl your hair. I don’t want Tiger fans to be like Kentucky OR UT fans!
June 17th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Dan,
Although I realize there are a few obnoxious Tiger fans who question the recruiting abilities of Josh Pastner, they are definitely in the minority. Most true Tiger fans are very appreciative of Josh and what he brings to the program. He, unlike some Tiger fans, is a class act.
I realize that the negative comments and emails you receive are annoying, but they are in no way true examples of the sentiments of most Tiger fans. On the other hand, the Kentucky fans in the past have blasted their coaches en masse, partially due to the level of expectations set by former great coaches and seasons. I honestly don’t see this as a valid comparison.
June 18th, 2008 at 6:12 am
Kentucky fan boards are notorious for bashing recruits who turn them down and coachs who don’t reel them in but they are also very impassioned in
many of the right ways about UK basketball. It’s
a valid comparison and good time to stop this
kind of stuff,it don’t help, look at UK today.
In recruiting, you win some, you lose some and you move on to the next guy. We need to keep the TV guys away from the airport, its scaring recruits off, 2 for 4 in last month.
Blame the media,I say, conventional and easy to do.
June 18th, 2008 at 6:37 am
Dan-
While I agree that the emails you receive were uncalled for, I do not think it is accurate to lump all Memphis fans in this group. Ok…so you got a dozen emails out of thousands of fans. Big whoop. If you read the message boards (like I know you do), you would be more accurate in stating that MOST Memphis fans on those boards were quite gracious in defeat and would rather move on and talk about football or next year’s lineup or recruiting than to bash Pastner, Negedu, or any other staff member. Just my .02 cents.
June 18th, 2008 at 7:42 am
Everything’s ok, everything’s ok. Memphis is the still #1 and Cal can do no wrong.
Dan, your ability to spin every single situation into a positive for Memphis is astounding, and I applaud you.
June 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Hey Dan this is the third post I have made about the Lance Stephenson recruitment I understand you are very busy and I am thankful for your information, but when you can find some time could you please tell me what happen with him. Why we were the precieved leader then not even on his radar.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
tigerbham,
Did you read the subject of this blog “Some Memphis fans are starting to act like Kentucky fans…” Since when did “Some” become synonymous with “all” or “most”? I didn’t know you could have .02 cents ;)
June 18th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
EVERY schools has its share of fans that are jerks. just because a few have sent you e-mails doesn’t mean Memphis fans are becoming irrational like KY fans. I understand it is a blog, but these kind of comparison really have no place here
June 18th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Hey, this is Dan’s blog and his opinion, so I respect it. But for once, I disagree with it. Yes, Memphis has some “snarky” fans. Success will do that to a fan base. But I still think the majority of Tiger fans post respectfully on most sites and don’t go after their own coaches. Go to govolsxtra.com and get a load of what they say about Memphis. They also treat Fullmer poorly at times. We’re still nowhere near Kentucky, Duke, UNC, UT or UCLA as far as being “snarky” to our coaches or other fans. Let’s hope we can keep it that way. It’s more fun to reply to haters with facts and tact. That shuts them up. And give our own coaches a lot of slack. I can personally remember back to 1953 or so. Our program has never been in better shape, not even close. Go Tigers Go!
June 18th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I like the article. I wasn’t too excited about the prospect of having another undersized but athletic player for UM. If you’re not a clone of Joey, his cousing, newborn son, younger brother, nephew…UM can’t use you. Humor aside…I hope Negedu strives at UT. But we need something much greater. I’ll wait!
June 18th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Q Dog -
I saw your previous post re Lance Stephenson.
I checked then and I just checked again - several places.
We’re still on his list @ every place I knew to check.
We’re also still in the running for John Wall and Xavier Henry, along with about 6 0r 7 other top 50 players.
What did you see to make you think we were off his list ?
June 18th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
So let me get this right, it’s ok for Memphis fans to act like crybabies if a 5 star recruit from Memphis was to ever pick Pearl/UT, which you said would never happen partly because of the crybaby Memphis fans response? But you call them out since Negedu is only a “nice player”.
June 19th, 2008 at 7:43 am
Hey Charles THANKS for responding, check out nydailynews.com/blogs/weiss go down to the june 15th blog this Weiss guy has been spot on he was where Dan first heard mention of Josh Pastner being a possible asst. coach for the Tigers.
June 19th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Q Dog -
Yeah - I see what you mean.
I guess we just simply didn’t make his short list.
But, that’s ok. I really believe Cal thinks more highly of Xavier Henry - could be the reason we fell out of favor with Lance.
We’re still on John Wall’s list, and the list of plenty of others; Gaddi, etc.
As Cal would say : “We’ll be fine.”
By the way, be sure and check out moondogsports.com, the Moondog alomost always has interesting stuff and a pretty cool chick pic of the day.
June 19th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Negedu not a Tiger = disappointing but not the end of the world. Negedu to UKKnoxville = anathema but not the apocalypse, yet. The line of thought that TN recruited Negedu from the beginning, not Memphis, is logical. I think both Pastner and Antigua will be good couching assets for the Tigers, and landing long, tall Sallie will prove to be a good thing, .plus we got Dozer back on the same day.
We’re likely starting Dozier, Taggart, AA, Reke and will have fun seeing a lot of 5, 6 and 7 play. It’s time to salivate over the potential and talent we have for next season. Hey, even Niles has dropped 20 lbs and, reportedly to Kemp’s credit, may be catching on to the maturity band wagon.
June 20th, 2008 at 10:09 am
tigertime-
First, I didn’t ask for your smart@$$ reply. Second, the title may say some, but the tone of the article implies all, IMO. Either way, it doesn’t matter. I can disagree with Dan if I want. Dan can disagree with me if he wants. Lastly, I apologize for not showing the correct monetary annotation for “two-cents”. I guess typing that quickly and running back to working didn’t leave much time for editing, huh?
June 21st, 2008 at 10:07 am
tigerbham,
Easy tiger…don’t get your panties in a bunch. I don’t care if you disagree with Dan, agree with Dan, call him names, or put a poster of Dan on your wall next to CDR and the future mayor of Memphis Joey Dorsey. My point is you are getting pi$$ed off over misconstruing the context of a blog.
I know 100% that Dan doesn’t think ALL Memphis fans act like KY hillbillies and talk trash about our staff and recruits. Just like you don’t have to agree with Dan, I don’t have to agree with you taking a few comments out of context (again referring to the subject of the blog and then addressing the “some” in the rest of the blog) and ranting about it. Of course the TONE is negative because he is addressing a few fans who got bent out of shape over a recruit that wasn’t even a recruit 6 weeks ago.
Did Dan strike a nerve? Were you one of the idiots flying of the handle acting like this one of the biggest atrocities to happen to the U of M basketball program?
June 22nd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Dan, I don’t spend a lot of time on the message boards anymore, but I do spend some time blogging about Tiger sports and I haven’t seen any first hand accounts of Tiger Fans acting like Kentucky fans.
I’m passionate about the Tigers, I’m still mourning the loss to Kansas and your telling me that some fans are upset that Josh Pastner isn’t doing his job?
For the record, Pastner did not immediately recruit Emmanuel Negedu. He couldn’t walk in to his alma mater and steal one of their recruits. He had to wait until everything was official and do things the right way. How would we have reacted if Derek Kellogg took one of Cal’s recruits with him to UMASS? And DK isn’t even a UM alum so the comparison isn’t really apples to apples. Tennessee on the other hand, took advantage of the situation. If there is turbulence in the waters, it’s always a good idea to have a life jacket. Tennessee knew there was trouble in Tucson, so they reached out to the kids high school coach and the rest is history.
I’ve researched the new Tiger assistants for an article I did and can tell your readers that both of these men are among the tops in college basketball. Josh turned down job offers from Kentucky and Marquette (2 schools with National Championship banners) and ended up in Memphis.
I think we all need to look at the big picture. Ok, we took a hit with losing five players off last years team. The losses were greater than most anyone could have predicted. Coach Cal has done a nice job on the recruiting trail. By the time the experts chime in with their rankings, we should end up with a top 15-20 class. I may be wrong, but I don’t think we’ve got a one and done player this year, so we should be able to solidify our nucleus if nothing else.
We also lost two fine assistant coaches who got their own gigs. Cal responded by bringing in two guys that will also be head coaches one day. In my opinion the only reason Josh Pastner left Arizona is he knew to reach his goal(s) he had to leave Tucson and make a name for himself. I predict great things for Josh Pastner and would not be at all surprised if he ends up a coach at a major BCS school in the next 3-5 years. It’s very difficult to get those jobs when you don’t have proven abilities, but Josh is that special.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:31 am
WOW!! Unbelievable!! You guys have the nerve to dis UK?? Last time I checked they were in great shape and have about 7 more banners than you. Oh yea the fans suck right?? Maybe if your fans took more of an interest in their program much like UK fans do, you would have a banner or 2. I dont recall UK fans bashing Rupp, Hall, or Pitino. I actually dont hear them bashing Billy G now and thats coming off the worst season in UK Basketball in quite a while. I think maybe there was a little (actually should have been a lot more) bashing of Eddie Sutton with his drinking problem and having to be escorted home on numberous occasions by the local police and there was bashing of Tubby Smith. That bashing didnt come until the last 2-3 years of his term at UK. Mainly because not only were we not living up to expectations BUT we were getting kids not even ranked in the top 100 in recruiting the last couple years. Now at UK (even at Memphis nowadays) you would expect to get at least 1 kid a year in the top 100 in recruiting right? Tubby got out at the right time. If he were coaching this past years team, they would have definately not made the tournament and had the miracle turnaround. Actually if it were not for Billy G, 2 of the top 25 freshman would not have even been at UK in Alex Legion and Patrick Patterson. Let me give you some of the top incoming freshman UK received the past couple years under Tubby’s recruiting. Mike williams, Mike Porter, Aj Stewart, etc. I dont expect you to konw those guys because I think they scored a total of 20 points last season.
My point is, dont bash another schools fans. They get enough of it. Also, what kind of low person refers to them as KY Hillbillies? What did they do to you exactly? When they start bashing your program then talk about them. When you have some evidence that they even bash their own program, coaches, players, and players who decide not to go to their school, then say something. Dont go off of a stereotype because last time I checked, Memphis Head Coach John C. had a stereotype of being a cheater! From the outside looking in, it looks like Memphis getting McDonald’s All Americans one after another is a little fishy considering they play in Conference USA and didnt really get much of anyone before the new coach came in. Maybe UK bloggers should let Indiana know that it was good they got rid of their coach because he was starting to turn into a Memphis program with all the cheating. Just saying, you have no business writing a blog about another school when you know nothing!!!
August 9th, 2008 at 3:12 am
first of all a few of you say that this article sounds like it is bashing all tigers fans and not some like it says. But the you turn around and act like all UK fans are that way. That is pretty stupid. Everybody knows that something is going on at memphis with the players coming there and now we know what! Fedex is all i have to say. Your boosters offer things to players and there familys. That is why you are being investigated by the NCAA. That is the only reason you guys have a ball team now. You offer players to come and play at memphis and say we play nobody worth a crap all year other than 1 team, so we are sure to get a 1 or 2 seed in march. Everybody we play sucks because were in conf. USA. So all you tiger fans dont even act like you know what it is to love basketball and dont ever compare your second rate school that does’nt play anybody to KENTUCKY the greatest ball program that there has ever been.
August 9th, 2008 at 3:46 am
That is funny! Ithink its hilarious how teams when some games and do well and all of a sudden think they are anywhere near elite as Kentucky! Memphis has done nothing but win a lot of games the last two years while UK has 7 championships going on 8 ! Dont get me wrong I love the style of Memphis Basketball ! There are only 4 elite schools UK, UNC, UCLA and Kansas and u Memphis arent even on horrible Dook’s level(oh snap)! U are an up and coming program though well until the NCAA drops the bomb on the program and u lose scholarships! Dan is right on Negedu is an undersized power forward who isnt a gamebreaker to put to much hype on! Tyreke will crush little scotty hopson also! Oh yeah Ky isnt all rednecks!!
August 9th, 2008 at 5:49 am
Apparently, while only some Memphis fans are overly-critical, judging from the content of this blog and the subsequent responses, most of them are racists.
August 9th, 2008 at 8:14 am
are you all serious?! people from the state of Tennessee ragging on people from Kentucky?! that is freaking hilarious! oh, and congrats tennessee on being ranked one of the top 3 fattest(meaning obese) states in the Union, you hypocritical rednecks!
August 9th, 2008 at 11:37 am
And by the way, GO CATS!!!!!!!!
Hit me up Danny boy, would love to talk with ya
Owensboro, KY
August 9th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Uh-oh, it looks like the peasants from Kentucky have escaped from the farm once again. Exactly ZERO Final Fours in the past ten years and yet they have the audacity to come here and talk smack to Memphis fans.
“Tubby got out at the right time. If he were coaching this past years [sic] team, they would have definately [sic] not made the tournament and had the miracle turnaround.”
Miracle turnaround?! Has Kentucky really fallen so far that merely salvaging an 18-12 season qualifies as a miracle? That’s classic! I guess it must suck more than ever to be UK fan, eh?
“Actually if it were not for Billy G, 2 of the top 25 freshman would not have even been at UK in Alex Legion and Patrick Patterson.”
Actually, if it were not for Billy G, Alex Legion might still be a member of the team.
As a Tar Heels fan I’ve seen my fair share of UK Internet morons. You hit the nail on the head, Dan. When the worst of the worst of any school’s fans begin to exhibit all the telltale signs of hatred and insecurity, then they’re no better than the typical Kentucky fan.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
When Memphis actually has some competition to play against then I believe they can consider themselves worthy of talking trash. Conference USA??? I mean come on! You might as well be playing in a 7 & 8th grade district. Calipari is a snake and is about to be unveiled. Sure Kentucky hasn’t been to the Final Four in 10 years..but……..I GUARANTEE YOU THAT THEY WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE MEMPHIS DOES!
August 9th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Im not here to bash anyone but it is kinda funked up when a state that is twice as redneck as Kentucky calls us hillbillies.Thats hilarious.I had no problem with Memphis basketball until now.Your conference blows. You play REAL competition and you choke.I’d say check up on Memphis in about 20 years and they might be caught up with Tennesee, that is if your not caught cheating b4 hand and drop back down to the level of the rest of conference usa.Thats hilarious.conference usa=ovc
August 9th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
oh and dromgoole…..ill bet you right now that unc will be #1 most of the season and choke too so keep talking smack.
August 9th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
The only thing you guyS expect from memphis players are to end up on a) 11 o’clock news or b) the first 48.
F*ck memphis, go Vols
August 9th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
that was the first thing i though of as well………….48 hours. I guess it comes down to what would you want to be a hillbilly or a drug dealing thug.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Shouldn’t you guys worry about King Willie, and his cover ups of traffic deaths. Or maybe get your local kids some daddys, so you can maybe they’ll survive longer than 3 months. Or maybe even do something to knock Memphis off the bankruptcy king of the hill title. Or how about consistently being in the top 5 in every major violent crime category. Not to mention the STD capital, and consistent leaching of the food stamps, and housing. But I guess that goes back to not having daddys.
Maybe Negedu, didn’t want to be involved with a team where the majority have a criminal record and live on Beale St. starting riots, and beating women. Or how about not wanting to play with a cheating coach, that’s already had one final four forfeited. and allows FedEx execs to make recruiting calls.
I work right here on Covington Pike and can go to any home Grizzle and Tiger game, and even get to sit in the Ford box seat for free, and I still haven’t been to one game. CUSA is a mid major conf, and the whole illusion that is the Tigers offense is about to come crashing down.
August 9th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
WOW. That last post is the worst on here and by far the most racist and it came not from a KY fan. I didn’t hate Memphis until now but they are on the same level as Florida, DUKE, UNC for me. I hope you get caught in this Fed Ex scandal. Someone said it earlier that you never had 5 stars until Calipari and now your loaded with them on a team that is in the C-USA….Seriously…. Fed-Ex thing doesn’t sound good at all. I expect some serious implacations to occur and you will be just like Minn.. from the 90’s. See the espn article about Clem Haskins for futher details on that one. Have fun winning 30 games against teams that never make it to the big dance.
August 9th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
“I didn’t hate Memphis until now but they are on the same level as Florida, DUKE, UNC for me.”
Like most UK fans, you’re probably too dense to realize it, Dough, but all of this hatred you guys harbor for more recently successful programs like Memphis, Florida, Duke, and UNC is actually envy manifesting itself.
August 9th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Dan,
Great comments…..NOT!!! I can tell you every program, whether its Duke, UNC, UT or Memphis have fans you reference. All in all, fans are fans…supportive and intensely proud of their programs. To generalize and say UK fans are “notorious for blaming their own coaches, making accusations about opposing coaches or badmouthing kids when they choose to play at a different school” is shallow and irresponsible. Apparently having a blog makes one an expert. Grab your neck and pull your head out.
August 9th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
This is a joke. Every School and coach in the country wishes they had Kentucky’s fan base. Are some irrational? Sure, but all schools have those. If you want to bash Kentucky fans, go ahead, don’t bother me. However………If some Memphis fans are as bad as you claim we are………..Wait until your program actually accomplishes something. Until then, just enjoy beating up on C-USA opponents and pretend you have been a Memphis fan all along.
August 9th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
As a UK fan i would think that any top team that steadily declines would bash the coach, players, etc. Memphis has had plenty of recent success. If they were to steadily decrease in the bringing in of top 100 recruits, and their wins decreased to where each year they we’re always considered a ‘Bubble Team’ that Memphis fans wouldn’t be exactly happy either. UK has way more tradition, wins, and much higher expectations than Memphis fans based on their history and past success. I have no problem with Memphis because I enjoy watching the style of play they have and believe that we will be at that speed pretty soon. I hope we can schedule UK vs. Memphis pretty soon because we’ll both be at the top and it’ll be a pretty legit series. All teams have some hick fans, I wont deny it, the southeast is kinda where all the hicks live. Fans dont reflect a program. UK fans may be harsh at some times but so can Memphis fans.
August 9th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Hey dromgole here is a fun fact for you 17 final fours only 4 titles carolina is famous for falling apart in the final four. KENTUCKY 13 final fours 7 titles better than 50%. So your just mad at UK because we are the best basketball tradition in the NCAA. Everybody always hates the best just like everybody hates the Yankees. North Carolina will get beat in the final four this year if they even make it. Also atleast at kentucky you dont have to worry about getting mugged and murdered on campus.
August 9th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Memphis has never done anything 1 losing season in 70 years how many has memphis had and they play in a weak conf. If you want to be a power house move out of conf USA. Win atleast 3 NCAA titles and be ranked in the top 25 for atleast 5 straight seasons. Only thing Memphis has ever won is a NIT title WOW thats really hard to do Memphis is a joke and bet your butts your coach and boosters are cheating.
August 9th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
“Also[,] atleast [sic] at kentucky [sic] you dont [sic] have to worry about getting mugged and murdered on campus.”
Yeah, the only thing your coeds need to worry about is being raped by one of their brothers.
August 10th, 2008 at 9:45 am
well lets see, memphis wins a few games & someone wants to mention them in the same paragraph as KY.Where has memphis been for the last 5,8, or 10 years? oh danny boy soon memphis will fade away & ky will always be ky I bet you both fade away within 5 years & still no titles.well, you may get 1 for having poop breath because your full of s*it
August 10th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Ha UK fans want to bash the C-USA. What is UK’s record vs. the C-USA the last 3 years. I believe its 3-3 With losses to UM, Houston, and UAB. Not including the embarrassing UAB loss in the tourney. I know you have the all time wins record but if you look at that list you guys count wins against the Cincinnati YMCA and thats ridiculous. UK is the most racist program in history. Racist Adolf Rupp was garbage, he won his titles in the 40’s & 50’s. At least UNC won their titles when there was color tv. Also how good has the SEC been in the history of basketball. UK is on a downward spiral and I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Billy Clyde’s recruiting is laughable, how desperate do you have to be to recruit 7th and 8th graders. I guess players don’t like playing for a drunk either that’s why your players transfer out. So go back to your catspiss.com and continue with the circle jerk.
August 10th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Wow, what a flurry of Memphis jokes, Tennessee folks, and Kentucky fans. It’s astonishing, kind of, that each flame basketball program compares their fans, teams, coaches, or facilities to that of the University of Kentucky. Conciquently, the other fan base usually bashes the Wildcat faithful. However, in all honesty, it’s a jealousy that they don’t want to admit.
It’s a funny shame that any program tries to bash the “ridiculous” fan base that follows Kentucky basketball. Lets see what some of the more respected anaylist say.
“Really, UCLA’s a great place as well, but they don’t have the kind of environment they have here. The fans here have a passion.” - Dick Vitale on Kentucky fans
“Apparently the University of Kentucky basketball dynasty is to continue forever.” - Philadelphia Inquirer
“When you see Kentucky’s fans, you just wonder. You think how wonderful it would be to go to their school. You wish you could trade places for a day, just so you could experience that feeling.” - UCLA player Kris Johnson
“They had it before you, they had it during you, they’ll have it when you’re gone”….” - Al McGuire on Kentucky Basketball Tradition
It’s not wise to mess with Wildcat fans in person, and especially on the internet.
August 10th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Gator Terminator rote on 9 Aug
NORTH CAROLINA HAS THERE FAIR SHARE OF REDNECKS TOO!!
Yes, but most of our state’s rednecks follow NASCAR only and the rest are disproportionately leaning toward NC State. And our rednecks have the majority of their teeth still in place!
August 10th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Memphis basketball being mentioned in the same sentence, paragraph and or story with Kentucky basketball is laughable at best. Are Kentucky fans hardcore? Yes. Are they insane about their program? Yes. Are they driven to the point of insanity when the Cats don’t win? Yes. Do UK fans sometimes seem over zealous when it comes to critical analysis of players, coaches, and opposing fans? Yes. The message being that until Memphis hangs seven banners in that hell hole of a city, no fan, supporter, blogger, etc should dare compare the two programs. Just as UK football fans have no idea what it’s like to be a Notre Dame football fan, Memphis sycophants have no idea what UK basketball is all about. Wins some trophies, and then come back and spout your crap. I don’t mind if you hate us, you should. Just don’t speak about something of which you have no experience.
August 10th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
“Are Kentucky fans hardcore? Yes. Are they insane about their program? Yes. Are they driven to the point of insanity when the Cats don’t win? Yes.”
And why is it that way? Is it because Kentuckians have absolutely nothing else to invest themselves in? Yes. Is it because UK basketball is the ONLY sporting activity, professionally or collegiate, worthy of following for UK loyalists? Yes. Is it because most Kentuckians have nothing else to pin their hopes and dreams upon, and anytime those hopes and dreams are dashed they feel resentful? Yes.
What a miserable life UK fans must lead.
August 11th, 2008 at 3:30 am
Dromgoole,
U can kiss my ass with your tongue out. We have a miserable life huh? Then why is your gay ass on here even talking? Did ya just happen to come upon this while you was applying for your food stamps?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
“Kentuckians have absolutely nothing else to invest themselves in?” LOL
Is that honestly what people tell themselves when their team sucks and their fanbase sucks harder??
Whatever makes you feel better about yourself!
If this is what being miserable feels like…I’m in!
August 11th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
My team doesn’t suck, toots, and there should be no doubt in your mind about it come November 18 when we completely annihilate Kentucky (who sucks, by the way), nor in April when we win another national championship.
August 12th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
You honestly have nothing to contribute to this blog at all…you just sound like another bitter fan with too much jealousy. Sorry your team will never even compare to UK…get over it.
August 12th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Forgot to mention…I live in NC…UNC fans seem to vanish after April?? Why is that? (Must me true passion for your team)
August 12th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
A Carolina fan jealous of Kentucky? Now I’ve heard everything.
“UNC fans seem to vanish after April?? Why is that?”
Who knows, maybe we simply have enough sense to avoid further contact with some skank whore who calls herself “uk girl.” Then again, it could be because at that time of year we’re refocusing our attention to Carolina baseball and the College World Series.

I love how these inbred UK fans instantly get defensive about the TRUTH–“Kentucky fan syndrome” seems to have hit. Kentucky fans are notorious for blaming their own coaches, making accusations about opposing coaches or badmouthing kids when they choose to play at a different school.”–then turn it into a rant about why Memphis sucks and UK rules. Memphis fans know the history and tradition of UK basketball, however, we are just as proud as ours even though we don’t have a NC yet. Check out a recap of the stupid hillbilly comments below:
“That is funny! Ithink its hilarious how teams when some games and do well and all of a sudden think they are anywhere near elite as Kentucky!” Pimpin—WHEN some games! Are you really that stupid Pimpin. The state of KY should shut down your meth lab ASAP so we don’t have to read this babble.
“I’d say check up on Memphis in about 20 years and they might be caught up with Tennesee, that is if your not caught cheating b4 hand and drop back down to the level of the rest of conference usa.”gatorxteminator–The funniest part about this inbred KY fan is that somehow he missed the “moron proof” red underline when you misspell things. That’s impressive!
“Shouldn’t you guys worry about King Willie, and his cover ups of traffic deaths. But I guess that goes back to not having daddys…I work right here on Covington Pike and can go to any home Grizzle and Tiger game, and even get to sit in the Ford box seat for free, and I still haven’t been to one game. CUSA is a mid major conf, and the whole illusion that is the Tigers offense is about to come crashing down.” mike—What do all the problems with “The City of Memphis” have to do with The University of Memphis? Maybe you should focus on selling your used cars instead of participating in big boy activities, like reading and writing.

Also, let’s not get into a which state is better argument because KY’s biggest cities Louisville and Lexington don’t stand a chance against Memphis or Nashville.
