The Commercial Appeal Prep Staff has selected its Preseason Dandy Dozen High School football teams and we will start revealing a team a day beginning Sunday, Aug. 10. Be sure to check out our video each day at www.commercialappeal.com/preps
Who do you think should be included in our Dandy Dozen? Teams eligible must be from Shelby, DeSoto, Tipton or Fayette County.
Some questions heading into the season:
Is this the year that Olive Branch defeats South Panola?
Does defending state champion St. George’s have enough to repeat?
Who is the best in Division 2-AA? MUS or CBHS?
Which team will climb to the summit in tough Region 8-5A?
Will traditional power Germantown bounce back from missing the playoffs in 2007?
Can Coach Devin Rutherford lead White Station to another 12-win season?
How good will Briarcrest Christian be in Coach Major Wright’s first season?
Kingsbury, Melrose or Fairley in Region 8-4A?
Will Covington bounce back from its 2-8 season?
Is Millington still the team to beat in Region 7-5A?
Let us know your choices…..

Millington and Whitehaven have to be considered the teams to beat in 7AAAAA and 8AAAAA respectively.

Millington lost a lot last year, but I expect Coach Hank Hawkins to field another strong team.
I think Region 8-5A is wide open. Collierville, White Station, Whitehaven and Houston could all win the region and watch for Charlie White to have Germantown battling for a playoff spot.

Can Mitchell repeat a run in 3A for the title? I like the fact that every year they are over looked, and end up being the Team to watch during the Season. Go Tigers!

Mitchell is fully loaded. I watcher their last 3 scrimmages. They should average 35 - 40 points a game. Also The Defense is just as potent as the offense.

Kingsbury’s Duron Sutton is the BEST coach in the city and with his all-everything running back, the Falcons should be the cream of the crop. Sorry Melrose and Fairley but the Falcons will soar.

Steve O Dell I think you’ll strongly wrong about the Falcons. Fairley football is the best and we will get our respect! BELIEVE THAT

We have unveiled our first 4 teams in our Dandy Dozen preseason poll.
No. 12 Kingsbury
No. 11 Bolton
No. 10 White Station
No. 9 Fairley
Who do you think we need to rank in our top 8?

This is the year that OLIVE BRANCH defeats national powerhouse South Panola. New team, new field, new results…… OCT 3rd….

I recently talked to Coach Grannon and he was very optimistic about this year’s team… I think the Red Knights are one of the top teams in the state in D2-A….

Torian
They should be good again this year, but the Spartans lost a lot of guys that won 12 games each of the past 2 seasons … Link, Haaga, Sanders, etc… That’s a lot of offensive firepower to replace.. But, we think they will again be one of the top teams in the area..

Mitchell was so impressive at The Jamboree Thursday. I am suprised that they are not # 1. It might be because they are 3 A. Those dang twins are hell on wheels. I have been watching them since they played at Lanier. I thought they were still at Melrose. From what I seen, Mitchell Tigers are worth the price of admission.

Tiger Joe
Yes, Mitchell is going to be impressive. When we dropped by their practice they had 60 plus kids working hard. They are loaded with a lot of young talent… If they stay healthy this might be the year they get that 3A title…
This Saturday’s game with Whitehaven should be one of the top games of season…

I think Mitchell is gonna continue from where they left off. There offense is great, just like last year. They have a little bit more speed then last year, so I must say to from the season they had last year & the type of team they have this year, they should be #1 in the Dandy Dozen & not #7. Even the Coaches AP Poll, they rank them #8 in the state.
So if you want to see a great high school with some great offensive & defensive plays, you not need to attend the Liberty Bowl Classics, you need to check out the Whitehaven Classic, Saturday, August 23, 2008 with the main even, (#7)Mitchell -vs- (#3)Whitehaven. Clash of the TIGERS.
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!
