Some stunning notes and quotes from Memphis’s 42-35 heartbreaking loss to Rice:
* Rice QB Chase Clement completed 13-of-14 passes for 176 yards and a TD and rushed seven times for 47 yards and two touchdowns IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.
* Rice receiver James Casey caught six passes for 120 yards IN THE FOURTH QUARTER and had the two-point conversion catch to tie the game at 35-all with 1:15 to go.
* Memphis has allowed an average of 45 points per game in its last four games dating to last season.
* Here’s cornerback Chris Jammer on the interception he turned into a game-winning 69-yard score with 11 seconds to go:
“I knew being a freshman they were going to test me all day. I had to bow up and keep going.”
* Jammer on the comeback route he read: “I finally jumped it on the last play and it paid off.”
* Tiger receiver Maurice Jones’ career night (173 yards) represented the third-highest single-game total in school history.
* Tiger coach Tommy West on the loss: “Plain and simple, we just fell apart. We gave the game away.”
* After being held to 77 yards in the first half, Rice erupted for 353 yards (or 8.4 yards per play) in the second half.

If Tommy says, “We just need to get better at doing what we do” one more time, I’ll throw up.

I thought Tommy West was a defensive Guy? He’s done a great job with the offense but man our defense gets worse every year!
