It’s over on Lake of the Ozarks, and things didn’t end well for Collierville angler Michael Wooley.
After leading the first three rounds of the Stren Series Central Division bass tournament, Wooley faded during Saturday’s final round. He caught just one fish that weighed 15 ounces and fell to ninth place with a four-day total of 43-4.
Veteran Missouri pro Dion Hibdon, who crept up to third place on Friday, finished strong with 15-3 Saturday and won the event with 55-3.
It’s an old rule of thumb in competitive bass fishing.
When you have a seasoned pro like Hibdon lurking around the top five with a bunch of upstarts going into the final day, put your money on the pro.
Wooley still earned a check for $3,358, and he gained a ton of notoriety. But he came up short in his quest for a gigantic victory.
Wes Endicott of Joplin, Mo., placed second with 48-13, and Zack Bull of Lakeland finished third with 48-12. Hat’s off to Bull for holding a spot in the top five all week long.
