First let me thank y’all for the kind comments. I really appreciate it.
As painful as the loss was Saturday it still wasn’t the most painful in my basketball memory. That pain (pain being relative) was January 10th, 1983. Tigers fans reached the pinnacle of college basketball for the first time in the school’s history. That night the Tigers went into Blacksburg, VA and lost to VA Tech. Five hours after the greatest feeling we experienced the pain of being knocked off the top of the pile. It hurts, a lot. It is a miserable place for a fan knowing that you are just waiting for the new poll to come out and your team will drop off the highest spot. I remember that gut wrenching feeling. We Tigers fans know what the Tennessee fans are going through. And now I can smile again.

I said prior to the game Saturday that it really didn’t matter that much. Hopefully Gary will back me up on this. The truth is the loss shouldn’t hurt the Tigers too much in the polls or in seeding. If it does then something stinks in Denmark. The Tigers SHOULD still be a number 1 seed if they win out. I have no reason to think otherwise. For that matter given the landscape the Tigers could STILL be the #1 overall on selection Sunday. Teams like UT, Kansas, UCLA, UNC, and Duke still have to play tough games. The Tigers could very well be the only team with one loss at season’s end. They will be the only team in the country without a loss outside the top 5 in rankings or RPI. I think they will have made their case quite well for that top spot by finishing the season and conference tournament with a 33-1 record.

First let me say I think the guys who have called C-USA games this year have been absolutely horrible for the most part. They are wildly inconsistent to say the least. After reading message boards and media reports about UAB’s asking for a review of the game because of officiating I had to say something.
UAB is asking the league to review the films of the game from Saturday complaining about officiating. I wonder if they will ask the league to comment on a few things that I’m sure Davis and company don’t want them to look at.

“I’ve had all I can stand. I can’t stands no more.” People need to get off this idea that the Tigers were more or even 50% at fault Saturday night. Were they partially at fault? Yep. But were they the driving force in the melee that followed the game Saturday night in Birmingham. Well, they kinda sorta were as they ruined the UAB celebration but they didn’t deserve what they got from the UAB fans and students. And they definitely aren’t deserving of all this holier than thou criticism that many are tossing at them.

Wow, was that game last night simply amazing. Say what you will about these Tigers but they have a resolve for winning that is second to none. They battled for 40 minutes and were rewarded.
You’ve got to hand it to UAB. They played lights out last night. They shot 53% from the field. They shot 91% from the FT line. They played the game of their lives against the #1 team in the land. But in the end, they lost. And you can lead every statistical category but if you have less points those stats simply don’t matter.
Mike Davis’ passive aggressive approach about officiating was a joke. Look I can complain about officials as much as the next fan, but his logic was laughable considered the way this game was called. Mike you weren’t complaining when your team got into the bonus five minutes before the Tigers. I could go on and on. And in all honesty, if your superstar makes his FT with 15 ticks on the clock, we play overtime.
Check of WREC’s website for the ESPN screen shot that proclaimed our perfect season over. They assumed the Tigers had lost before the game went final. It was the Memphis Tigers’ verison of Dewey Defeats Truman.
The actions of the UAB students and fans were pitiful. Everyone knows about the actions of the students but it wasn’t any better in other parts of the arena according to many Tigers fans. Even the police were out of line, they did NOT allow Tigers fans to hang around for Coach Cal’s post-game show but let UAB fans stay for Davis’ show. It wasn’t about the way the game ended because more than one fan has reported the police said the order was given BEFORE the game. Sounds like UAB needs to take some lessons from Ron Burgundy.

Sorry for my absence but sometime life lets us know what is really important. Seeing your 45-year-old sister on a respirator let’s you know exactly what life is about. I’m also happy to say that she is recovering quite nicely. She’s out of ICU and a couple of days away from going home. Thanks to my friends for their thoughts and prayers throughout this ordeal. It meant a lot to me and my family.
I said last week that I was going to start going over issues regarding the on-campus stadium. That was put on hold. But I shall get rocking on that on Tuesday. It needs to be said because it seems not everyone is aware of the actual facts.

The struggle that was the UTEP game will only HELP the Tigers down the road. They made plays when they needed to make them in order to win. It is easy to lose when you play badly but winning when you play badly is a sign of a great, not good team.
I’ll give you the fact the we shoot FT’s poorly. But how many looked like they were going down only to rim out? It was frustrating to watch them shoot them today.
If anyone knows where I can get a pair of Memphis sweat pants, please let me know.
